Watching MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell hitting on Christie for not firing his aides today.
He said and the other panelists agreed that 12 hours is enough for an action for someone who represents himself as "decisive". They thought it was a character failing on Christies part. However, I suspect the reason is something else altogether which fully fits his character.
The media including the MSNBC hosts do not understand or do not want to discuss the fact that even though 12 hours is plenty of time to fire an aide caught red-handed, it is not a lot of time to negotiate sufficient payoffs to your whole staff to arrange for them to fall on their own swords (ending their careers) to protect him from any exposure.

(710 posts)Well, I have wanted a Sopranos movie ever since the tv show finished airing, and then James Gandolfini passed away and I gave up hope for it.
Now I have hope again, they can cast Christie as the new Tony Soprano. Who will get behind that?

(12,448 posts)could actually be a sympathetic character at times. No you didn't like a lot of the stuff he did, but at the same time you couldn't help kinda liking the guy against your will (at least I couldn't).
Christie, though...nothing sympathetic about him. Wouldn't work.

(7,968 posts)as this is how he operates too. He'll probably eventually be forced to fire an aide but we'll have to keep the pressure on in order for that to actually happen.
Christie is the new media darling. I'm so sick of it. I doubt this will work as it is too soon. Plenty of time for Christie to invoke doctrine of "change of course".

(55,981 posts)had Karl "The Fixer" Rove set him up. This smells of "THe Fixer".
DeSwiss
(27,137 posts)...and I can't figure out what it means. How can Rove ''fix'' this? Especially when it seems everyone, including the state's Democratic Party, knew it because.... well, that's Christie. It's what he does.
- Please use diagrams or graphs to show how Rove arranged this, if you think it'd be helpful.

(55,981 posts)and I dont really care. If you dont agree, that's fine.
My point is, keep your eyes on Karl. Be very interesting to know who is paying his salary.
JHB
(37,158 posts)Are you claiming (or speculating) that Rove obtained and leaked the emails? Because otherwise everything that happened was done by Christie insiders.
I'm sure Karl likes his Great And Powerful Rove image, but pay attention to the mere mortal behind the curtain. Most of his "genius" is simply brazenness.

(55,981 posts)Just because you dont hear about all his tricks doesnt mean he has been on vacation. It's my opinion that in politics there is a lot of backroom deals, underhanded tricks, and "political pressure" put on people.
Now maybe Christie was stupid enough to pull this stunt that appears to kill his political career, or perhaps he was on the wrong side of some power people.

(26,325 posts)Christie is will be FORCED to throw people under the bus - HARD!
But there's a problem. They know too much. If this was the Chicago outfit they would be found in a car trunk at O'Hare airport after the smell became overwhelming.
As it stands, the GOP, NJ GOP, RNC and Christie's donors will have to back-stop their silence with lawyers, guns and money - 'cause the shit has hit the fan.
Anyone remember James Tobin Bush Campaign manager weasel who was up to his eyeballs in the phone jamming scandal? the RNC spent millions to defend him while one of his underlings went to prison. It was obvious Tobin knew where the bodies were buried because records showed he was in direct contact with the White House (probably Rove) the day of the jamming. The RNC spent 2.5 million to defend him AND his wife got a $300k a year job she was nowhere near qualified for.
In the coming days, it will become obvious who did and didn't have a "buffer" between themselves and the gov.

(7,960 posts)I'm guessing he's trying to arrange a soft landing for them--legal fees, future employment at a conservative think tank or a cushy six figure "consulting" job at some supporters law firm.
That he got taken by surprise by this is rather surprising and this may be hard to put together. Sounds to me like the GOP is planning to throw Jersey Fats under the bus.

(23,973 posts)I wouldn't bet any of those cronies would do a stretch in the pen for Christie, they've been gravy train riders their entire lives.
Someone will crack...but I believe the redacted name in some of those smoking gun e-mails is Christie himself.
Either way, he's fucked.

(51,550 posts)That's what I was thinking, and he's probably negotiating real hard to find those soon to be fired for show folks other juicy jobs to keep them quite while he shoves them under the bus on TeeVee... only, as mentioned above, they are all in the federal microscope now so...? I hope he get impeached, prosecuted and sentenced.

(35,658 posts)That a gang of high-level, close-to-the governor staffers would go out on a limb like this without his knowledge, thus his end-of-the-day statement is not in the least bit believable.
Only one person in that group has the motivation for the kind of over-the-top revenge that took place.
Furthermore, it is utterly ridiculous to think that someone would just email about "time for a traffic jam" and expect that another person would know exactly what to do. That had to have been extensively discussed prior to that email.

(14,040 posts)So, what were he and his staff and, most likely, attorney's doing all that time yesterday? Making sure he could make the claims he did yesterday without it coming back to bite him in his overly large ass. I bet they were metaphorically shredding documents yesterday to save him from prosecution and/or limit the political damage in the long run.
I think the NY Daily News editorial pretty much sums it up accurately, no matter the outcome of the investigation, Christie comes across as being inept and unprepared for something as serious as President of the United States.
