Christie's statements today will become classic psychology class studies.

He never asked the mayor for an endorsement so punishing him makes no sense at all.
For some reason he pursued hundreds of endorsements but never asked this mayor for one.
He has no idea why they would have done this.

So he fired the woman who did this today without ever asking her anything about it.
He hasn't had any contact with her since the scandal broke yesterday.

He has no interest in learning why this happened?
His key staff did a completely insane act for no reason, lied to him about it and he's not interested in learning anything about why they did?

And he's not mad, he's heartbroken.

I'm sure there are a ton of weasel words to extract from this interview today.

He must have put on special inflammable fireproof pants today because I saw no smoke.
I smelled a lot though.

Christie is being really weaselly now. He's using the lame "mistakes were made" third person non-apology apology, and pretending to "take responsibility" for this whole thing, all the while in reality blaming others and taking no responsibility at all. If he were actually sorry, he would've bluntly stated, "I made a mistake", "It's my fault", not that flaccid "mistakes were made" garbage. Christie is such a victim. Oh, the humanity! (Insert disgusted eye roll here.)

The non-apology apology and the non-denial denial, and of course trying to appear to take responsibility for something while making it clear that you were personally in no way responsible for it are all part of standard presidential politics.

I'm shocked, shocked to find that political retribution is going on in this state!
