Christie was targeting the head of the Senate Democrats (who represents Fort Lee)?
This was over a multi-year dispute originating with Christie's unprecedented, partisan yanking off the bench of a Democratic NJ supreme court justice.

2010 - Christie removes (by not re-appointing) the only black justice (John Wallace) from the "out of control liberal supreme court", breaking precedent going all the way back to the time New Jersey was founded a state

Due to Christie's bullshit partisan behavior, NJ Senate Democrats have refused to allow any Republican to take John Wallace's place on the court

And a huge blow-up on this issue took place on August 12 - the day before Kelley sent the infamous email.
A GOP Justice was up for reappointment and Christie refused to reappoint, because he knew Senate Democrats would not confirm and he did not want to give them the satisfaction of voting her down. This apparently enraged Christie. The leader of the Senate Democrats represents Fort Lee.

(112 posts)But the kind of conjecture that, when investigated, gets bigger. I'm feeling this getting much bigger.
Today, Christie focused almost all of his answers on the mayor of Ft. Lee and the absence of a feud with the mayor- but he never addressed the Legislators and other parties. And to cover his butt, he made it clear that he did not speak to the fired staffer since the word came out- he is insulating himself.

(19,966 posts)Maddow staff has smartly explored the context leading up to August 13.
Also, Sen. Weinberg made a point on Rachel's show that I've been thinking about all day:
"TIME FOR SOME TRAFFIC PROBLEMS"
The logical reply to that would be something like: "Traffic problems? WTF are you talking about?"
The illogical reply "GOT IT" is a dead giveaway that there was some previously established context that both parties were familiar with; no need to explain.
"CODE BLUE"
"GOT IT"

(950 posts)She opened by saying she had a new question that no one else would be asking.
She is amazingly smart and extremely thorough. She focused on the date of the email and what was happening around that date.

(17 posts)Criminal conspiracy is the legally correct term for this kind of collaborative criminal political corruption, and we are beginning to learn just a little bit about who this conspiracy involved, though how and why remain so far unanswered, but there is a question just as important that has not to my knowledge been asked yet:
HOW AND WHY DID THE DISRUPTION END WHEN IT DID STOP, AND WAS CHRISTIE THE ONE WHO ORDERED HIS SUBORDINATES TO KNOCK IT OFF?
If so then he has been involved in a conspiracy to cover up this criminal misconduct in his administration since last September and that is VERY serious indeed. As it so often is in this sort of thing "what did he know and when did he know it" are all important. Finding out who ordered the traffic jam to end and the lanes to be reopened may be a vitally important key to unlocking this whole mess.
