What's with websites pushing autoplay content?

If I can't turn it off, I leave the site and don't go back.

(111,174 posts)A combination of that plus Ad Block seems to have reduced those annoying ads to just about nothing. Once in a while I'll get one and see a new ad widget appear in the Ghostery panel. Then I zap it, reload the page, and the ad is gone.
You not only block advertising with Ghostery, you also block corporate tracking of your internet habits. Some media on pages that you want will need blocking paused in order to see them, but that's also very easy to do.
I love Ghostery. It's one of those incredibly useful programs that isn't a PIA to use. It is also available at the Firefox site as an add on.

(13,776 posts)I downloaded this antivirus software from CNET and it also blocks ads:

So far I'm happy with it (it's been a few months) and it has the blessing of CNET's editors, but I would hesitate to actually recommend it simply because I'm not knowledgeable at all about these things. I do know that I've even forgotten that autoplay ads (with sound!?! how RUDE) even exist because of it--who on earth ever thought those were a good idea? I always left the site immediately and never went back.
