A man in my community may lose his eyesight because of high deductible health insurance.

I just HATE this. Why don't we live in a civilized country? Why do greedy ass fucks get to benefit at the expense of someone's eyesight, or health?

I know this man and his work, he's an brilliant scholar and an all around good person. People in our community are fundraising for him, which is great - but the need to do a fundraiser shouldn't exist in the first place. And he's well known in his community so he's lucky in that his friends will probably raise the money needed. What about people with less community support? They just get to go blind while some assholes line their pockets with geld.

If Aaron has surgery in time, his vision can be permanently restored. The not so good news: The procedures he needs cost over $5000 and, due to the high deductible on his medical insurance, that price is beyond his reach.

If he was a UK occultist he would have this operation for free, he would be able to raise his family and have a career without difficulty. Unfortunately he lives in a nation where helping people is considered Communinism and the Christians in charge have forgot what it means to care for people.

Obama! But but but ACA!

But but but it could be worse. And other assorted raisons du jour.

In any event, this household donated to the above fund. We were where he was a few years back

It would be unusual for that to cause permanent blindness. In any event, there are plenty of ophthalmologists who would work out a reasonable payment plan for cataract surgery if he cannot afford it. Check with Lighthouse for the Blind. Good luck.

and has added the UK with their NIH into the equation. Perhaps it's just a typo.

There are oculists, but that wouldn't fit in the context. Perhaps meant to say 'if he was in the UK where they pay for oculists.'

An occultist practices the various arts of occultism. That is, the belief in the existence of secret, mysterious, or supernatural agencies. Leading to the study or practice of occult arts.

An ocultist is defined a physician who treats diseases of the eyes; an ophthalmologist or an optometrist.

The former type of ocultist will be able to remove the cataracts

What a difference a 'c' makes. IRL, I don't think a 'witch doctor' would take on this job.

Aaron is a writer and researcher and his subject matter is hermetics, or occult if you will. It's irrelevant to the issue - that quote could have read "If he was a UK citizen he would have this operation for free".

In other words: if we had a Universal Single Payer health care system, people wouldn't go blind from a treatable condition because they can't afford the treatment. Even when they DO have insurance.

10. Yep, sorry I didn't have time to research better. So if he is an occultist, it has nothing to do

with eye doctors, witch doctors, but the UK having the NIH instead of the hodgepodge of medical substitutes available in the USA. Now both the person and replied to and myself have been corrected.

Insurance companies should be banned and real health care plans replace them.
