Does the movie make any reference to the small time investors that lost everything, or is
the guy just made out to be a cool charming dude.

Dick or not, movie was enjoyable
But no reference to the people he screwed over, no shots of people losing their house, their incomes, etc etc etc.

(21,137 posts)I worked in the stock market world from 1978 to 1996. I remember Stratton Oakmont and the firm I worked at told us to not trade with this firm ( I was a position trader). At the traders conventions the Stratton guys were the big swinging dicks who threw around money and brought rounds of drinks for the whole bar. The hedonism surrounding them were things I will never forget. I also worked at LF Rothschild in the early 80's there was some big pricks. I was on their trading floor in NY in 1983 and it was massive. I was sad they got burned in the crash. I left the San Francisco office in 1984 and they had a lot of good people. But I remember how crazy Wall street was in the 80's and 90's. Reagan and Bush 1 turned a blind eye and it was Clinton who started these investigations. Just like Obama started investigations which had gone dead during bush 2 years.
But it goes to show you how gullible people are, perhaps the same ones who watch Fox and listen to right wing radio are the ones who got fleeced.

(1,805 posts)According to federal prosecutors, Belfort has failed to live up to the restitution requirement of his 2003 sentencing agreement. The agreement requires him to pay 50% of his income towards restitution to the 1,513 clients he defrauded. Of the $11.6 million that has been recovered by Belfort's victims, $10.4 million of the total is the result of the sale of forfeited properties. The sentencing agreement mandates a total of $110 million in restitution.[17]
In October 2013, federal prosecutors filed a complaint that Belfort, who had income of $1,767,209 from the publication of his two books and the sale of the movie rights, plus an additional $24,000 from motivational speaking since 2007, paid restitution of only $243,000 over the past four years. The government is currently not holding Belfort in default of his payments in order to keep negotiations open, but it is unclear when the full amount of the mandated restitution will be repaid.[18]

Child support payments are taken right out of one's checks; apparently it's different when you're rich.
