Buying Made in America

I have bought American-made jeans from two companies, Diamond Gusset and All American Clothing. Both made super products at a reasonable price.

I just received an e-mail from Diamond Gusset. The link to the e-mail doesn't work, so here's the gist.

The ad is a large photo of Mike Huckabee, American flag in background, following quote at the bottom of the photo: "I TRY TO SHOP WITH COMPANIES THAT SUPPORT LIBERTY...LIKE DIAMOND GUSSET JEANS."
- MIKE HUCKABEE

If you had bought from this company, how would this e-mail change your jeans purchasing decision?

Edited to delete link and provide above description.

2. This is a manifestation of political polarization by gender.

I think it's grossly unfortunate. Makers of women's clothes know they are mostly marketing to democrats. Makers of men's clothes know they are mostly marketing to republicans.

Setting aside issues of whether this is good public policy, it's also poses a practical problem. Although females are the vast majority of voters, when women marry, they tend to become republicans like their husbands.

3. It's not the Huckabee endorsement per se

that would stop me from buying from this company. People of all political persuasions wear clothing or eat food, and we don't need to divide ourselves further along such lines (though one wonders why they would get a politician to endorse—it's a clue that something deeper is going on with the owners of this company).

However, this line from their website, describing the "all American" soup-to-nuts aspect of their business, WOULD stop me from buying from them:

the people who built our building are USA citizens

So, no immigrants, legal or otherwise, welcome here. I don't find a company consonant with liberal values at all just because it touts "made in America." It doesn't mean it upholds values of labor, and especially doesn't mean it has anything else to do with progressive values--say, environmental practices. Made in America used to always be the province of the right-wing, back in the 80s.

so I probably wouldn't buy jeans from this company. Sending out an email with Huckabee screams "teabagger" and I don't want to support the crazies even if they do make clothes in the U.S.
