"SNIP...................................
Almost a year ago, during my first banking committee hearing, I asked several federal regulators a simple question: When was the last time you took a Wall Street bank all the way to a trial for breaking the law?
The regulators were stumped. After some hemming and hawing, they said they didn't need to take the biggest banks to trial for breaking the law because settlement agreements were tough enough to enforce the law.
I was little skeptical.
But here's the deal -- if the regulatory agencies are so confident that settlements are a good deal for the taxpayers they represent, then you would think they would be willing to publicly disclose the key terms and conditions of those agreements -- hang it right out there so everyone can see what a great job they did on behalf of the American people. But too many times, that isn't what they do.

(6,145 posts)Surely, Senators Booker, Schumer and Gillibrand will agree that when regulators decide to act as judges they will have to explain their reasoning. Right?
It will be interesting to see who tries to throw cold water on this bill.

(28,552 posts)..... that right now if you are a big bank and you commit fraud that nets you $100,000,000 dollars in profit, your typical penalty is to pay a $20,000,000 fine. How is this justice? How is this even an incentive to behave?

(750 posts)Whereas we the people put forth a new age in banking.
Let it be written where those persons found to be duped by banking fraud, that bank is to forfeit all rights to said property in loans to those persons in a fraud mortgage.
No more bail outs for CEOs or back room deals, with extra fines and convictions to be addressed. A direct action to ownership is transferred to that citizen for failed honest business conduct by said bank or mortgage concern.
Any bank this time forward will be liable to transfer property ownership free and clear of any leans or determinations caused by fraud in banking. Any fines or convictions because of fraud will be paid or, and with no less than ten years imprisonment.
The Congress of the free people in America in this new millennium do here by establish this as law of the land in all states.
Simple words change a whole lot...

(84,711 posts)Speaking out! She's the kind of Democrat that's so needed. Who doesn't waste time trying to get with the "in crowd" and worrying about speaking out of turn since she's only a Junior Senator. We've seen so many Dems we worked hard for get in there and you don't know what they heck happened to them once they get to DC.

(39,909 posts)I'm old enough to remember when they DID sound like that.
The really sad thing is that Warren STANDS OUT.... for doing the job she was elected to do.
She really should be almost unnoticeable among all the other Democrats Doing THEIR jobs too.
