Bill Nye Science Guy eats Climate Change denier for lunch (video)

http://americablog.com/2014/01/bill-nye-science-guy-eats-climate-change-denier-lunch-video.html

Bill Nye Science Guy debates angry conservative climate change denier guy Marc Morano on CNN (this was last month, but still worth watching).

Nye is his usual peaceful self. The conservative guy is kind of a loudmouth bully right out of the gate. I suspect it’s something in the food.

As Nye notes, Morano’s facts are from another planet. He argues a lot like a religious right nut, in fact. Talking very fast and making sure he “quotes” a lot of “facts” from a lot of seemingly prestigious institutions. The problem, as Nye points out, is that the guys “facts” simply aren’t true. But, like the religious right, he manages (hopes to, at least) confuse less-informed viewers into thinking maybe he’s right, since he has some many quotable “facts.”

Bill Nye is a scientist. (Damn good one too!)

Morano is a whore, bought and paid for by polluters.

Climate Denial Playbook: Marc Morano's History of Bullying Scientists

If you've even heard of Marc Morano, you probably watched him angrily attacking a climate scientist, journalist or Al Gore on Fox News or on his blog Climate Depot, a project of the Donors Trust and oil industry-funded CFACT. Morano is so agitated in his climate denial that he once advocated that climate scientists be "publicly flogged."

Originally a producer for the Rush Limbaugh Show, Morano ascended (descended?) to the position of Communications Director for Sen. James Inhofe (R-Denial), where he helped his boss to abuse the power of the Senate hearings process to attack climate science and promote conspiracy theories. Inhofe and Morano were corrected and debunked endlessly, but facts have proven no obstacle to Morano's crusade against science confirming the role of fossil fuel pollution in driving global warming.

(snip)

Morano's current organization, the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), has received over $4.1 million in funds from the shadowy Donors Trust and Donors Capital Fund between 2002-2011, plus an additional $582,000 from ExxonMobil between 1998-2012, according to Greenpeace's updated report, Dealing In Doubt.

he's probably the best science educator of our time.

He's an engineer by trade, never sought an advanced degree, and claims no original research on his CV.

views come from. Typical of their side is to try to prevent our side from being able to make an uninterrupted argument. That's one way to tell that they know they are wrong! For once I would love it if the Progressive would make that point, "Are you talking over me so I will not be able to show everyone that your position on this issue is full of shite"!

14. Morano vs. Nye
Tue Jan 14, 2014, 10:47 AM
Jan 2014

The website Climate Depot run by Morano is funded by right-wing billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife, known for his financial support of conservative public policy organizations. Morano was a political aide for Sen. Inhofe, who also worked for Rush Limbaugh. He has mastered the Republican tactic of talking louder, faster and interrupting others - but aside from that dubious skill, his credentials are questionable.
Nye is a former mechanical engineer, who studied under Cal Sagan; he is a science educator and lecturer, who belongs to The Committee for Skeptical Inquiry whose aim is to promote scientific inquiry, critical investigation, and the use of reason in examining controversial and extraordinary claims.

So who do you think has more credibility?

The host made a very respectable effort to narrow the discussion down to facts, but when you are allowed to do the Gish Gallop, this always prevails.

Any climate change denier listening to that segment would be emboldened.

And Nye's upcoming "debate" with the evolution denier will go exactly the same way.

Morano wasn't there to debate Bill Nye on any facts. Does the climate denier side even have any legitimate scientists? If they do, I doubt Piers would have had them on. Where's the infotainment value in an intelligent discussion? Kudos to Bill Nye for at least trying to get his message across on this clown show.

I've been kicked off that website THREE times, and it's the biggest joke of a site for the right wing trolls to migrate. Disagree with anyone, and you get attacked like a rabid dog going after a three legged rabbit. Egads!

This is what the reich wingers are great at...shouting, fillebustering, pulling facts out of their ass that have NO merit whatsoever, and that's "their game".

Good for Nye for taking it with courtesy and patience, but I really feel the scientific arena gets marginalized from these hacks, because the simple-minded viewer, eg newsbuster clan, lap up the arguments as if there is really "a fair and balanced presentation of evidence". Absolute BULL SHIT. It's like watching the Sunday talking heads giving "equal time" to fact and lies; then you decide. What the fook is that?
