WikiLeaks released the secret draft text for the entire TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership)

Today, 15 January 2014, WikiLeaks released the secret draft text for the entire TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Environment Chapter and the corresponding Chairs' Report. The TPP transnational legal regime would cover 12 countries initially and encompass 40 per cent of global GDP and one-third of world trade. The Environment Chapter has long been sought by journalists and environmental groups. The released text dates from the Chief Negotiators' summit in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 19-24 November 2013.

The Environment Chapter covers what the Parties propose to be their positions on: environmental issues, including climate change, biodiversity and fishing stocks; and trade and investment in 'environmental' goods and services. It also outlines how to resolve enviromental disputes arising out of the treaty's subsequent implementation. The draft Consolidated Text was prepared by the Chairs of the Environment Working Group, at the request of TPP Ministers at the Brunei round of the negotiations.

I like Asian food in general, and think they have made enormous contributions to our culinary landscape but - I just can't get behind this.

Yes, I do eat other forms of meat.

Article SS.8: Corporate Social Responsibility

Each Party should encourage enterprises operating within its territory or jurisdiction, to adopt voluntarily, into their policies and practices, principles of corporate social responsibility related to the environment, consistent with internationally recognized standards and guidelines that have been endorsed or are supported by that Party.

Article SS.9: Voluntary Mechanisms to Enhance Environmental Performance

The Parties recognize that flexible, voluntary mechanisms, such as voluntary auditing and reporting, market-based incentives, voluntary sharing of information and expertise, and public-private partnerships, can contribute to the achievement and maintenance of high levels of environmental protection and complement domestic regulatory measures. The Parties further recognize that such mechanisms should be designed in a manner that maximizes their environmental benefits and avoids the creation of unnecessary barriers to trade.

Lets see what happens when Corporations are allowed to VOLUNTARILY enforce their OWN Environmental Regulations:

Voluntary Corporate Responsibility?
Enough to gag a fucking maggot.

This is much, MUCH worse than I had imagined.
This REALLY is the "One Ring that Binds Them",
and it is NOW being forged in the furnaces of the REAL evil doers.

But I DO remember you as you've been a member here for a very long time. Plus, I do believe we also blogged at other sites.

Regardless, saw your post last week about getting married and wanted to wish you all the best, and congratulations!

I've known my husband since high school and I suppose we're the exception rather than the rule... we're still together. That's not to say that it's all been a bed of roses, but that can be said of ANY relationship.

Far too many people have no clue about TPP. Even people that I interact with all the time and that I ASSUMED where knowledgeable. I brought the issue up at a dinner I cooked for a couple visiting here from St. Louis, and the male talks "environmental" all the time. He wanted to know what I was talking about!

I made a joke about it, something referencing to the fact that he was from MO., (tongue in cheek) because I live in Flor-eeee-duh!! He did reply that he KNEW he could count on me to bring him up to date on issues he misses. He too was joking, but was interested in finding out about it. Don't know if I'm just lucky or just particular, but many of my out of state friends are Union People. Truthfully though, I don't go around finding out beforehand what political preference a person is or if they're religious or not.

Strangely enough too is the fact that my husband worked for a Union company here in FL. Once called GTE, it's now Verizon. I do have my issues with Verizon per se, but we are afforded good benefits and health insurance. We are now retirees, but back when it was GTE, it was better and our contributions were matched on a 50-50 basis. I don't think there's another company today that offers anything like that anymore. Plus, we did lose some perks after Verizon took over. But I'm not complaining, just thankful we were lucky enough to receive all that we did back then.

Guess this is an example of "the good ole days!" Just dated myself I think.

Again, thank you for the info, there's much I DIDN'T know myself and will be sure to pass this along to others.
