A republican friend informed me this morning

Last edited Thu Jan 16, 2014, 02:45 AM - Edit history (1)

that both Fallon and Springsteen support Christie, something I find hard to believe and can locate no support for on the web. Thoughts?

On edit: Wow. Once upon a time you couldn't edit after a very short time but I see this is no longer the case. Thanks for your responses. My friend did some research and now knows the truth.

My friend is like that. He started with nothing, not even a college education (which his republican parents discouraged) and learned a trade. By the time he was forty he was making a few million a year. Then he got sick, very sick. He could pay for his care but he couldn't work any more and has not been able to work (or speak clearly) for more than six years. These have been eye-opening years for him. So, he still calls himself a Republican but he can't tell me why, and he has become very aware of the effect of physical and financial hardship on a person's way of life, more so if that person never lived as well as he did.

So, he is not a billionaire and he is not a sucker; he was merely disinterested until life events forced him to deal with certain realities. We ought not discount these people. I see him changing and I've seen others like him change and literally switch parties. I was once a disinterested Republican myself but got smart. I know there are others out there who just need to get smart.

But those who have been SUCKERED by the high-paid, systematic Republicon propaganda machine, wake up mighty damn resentful that the Republicons SUCKERED them.

Free clue to RepubliBaggers: No one likes being SUCKERED.

I think Christie was on Fallon's show, so what? There is no way Springsteen supports Christie in anything other than the Sandy efforts.

Fox & Friends - the whole is to send the viewers out for the day with misinformation. If your friend is a dashboard believer they will have the same misinformation repeated to them throughout the day.

If Springsteen and/or Fallon support Christie, there should be a public record of their contributions in support of his campaign for governor, at very least. Or of them hosting fundraisers. Or appearing at events. Let him show you some evidence of any of those things occurring.

What you can show your friend is that prior to Sandy, Springsteen refused to give Christie the time of day. Indeed, Christie claimed that "If Bruce and I sat down and talked, he would reluctantly come to the conclusion that we disagree on a lot less than he thinks."

Note the word "reluctantly". So at best Christie has this fantasy that he could convince Bruce that they're not total opposites. Hardly a statement you would expect Christie to make about a "supporter."

Springsteen does not return the love.

Despite heroic efforts by Christie, Springsteen, who is still a New Jersey resident, will not talk to him. They’ve met twice—once on an airplane in 1999, and then at the 2010 ceremony inducting Danny DeVito into the New Jersey Hall of Fame, where they exchanged only formal pleasantries. (Christie does say that Springsteen was very kind to his children.) At concerts, even concerts in club-size venues—the Stone Pony, in Asbury Park, most recently—Springsteen won’t acknowledge the governor. When Christie leaves a Springsteen concert in a large arena, his state troopers move him to his motorcade through loading docks. He walks within feet of the stage, and of the dressing rooms. He’s never been invited to say hello. On occasion, he’ll make a public plea to Springsteen, as he did earlier this spring, when Christie asked him to play at a new casino in Atlantic City. “He says he’s for the revitalization of the Jersey Shore, so this seems obvious,” Christie told me. I asked him if he’s received a response to his request. “No, we got nothing back from them,” he said unhappily, “not even a ‘Fuck you.’”

You are exactly right, he misunderstood and thought there was mutual admiration because of Christie's support for federal disaster aid. He has acknowledged that he was misinformed.

If he had persisted with his assertion I intended to point that out. But he didn't, after a bit of research.

FWIW, he's the one who saw the vid and told me to watch it, because he thought it was hilarious.

You'll probably get Fox or somebody on the radio...tell them to do some research at some credible websites and get back to you.

I'm so tired of hearing people regurgitate RW talking points I have very few repub "friends" left. Besides, my lefty friends are a whole lot more fun to be around.

Springsteen supports Christie...sheeesh.
