$150 for a single run of TamiFlu?

i'm glad we're middle class, since we both have to take it (only he's got the flu)

everyone is talking about how horrible this flu season is but if we were a little closer to the financial edge we couldn't afford it.

wow, just wow

I know this isn't an option since you have to take Tamaflu as soon as flu is detected but ryan_cats Jan 2014 #2

I know this isn't an option since you have to take Tamaflu as soon as flu is detected but these guys in Canada have meds at decent prices.

10 pills of Tamaflu at the strongest strength is around $80.

and because immunity doesn't go away at the end of the flu season, it's possible that a component of one year's vaccine will yield some protection against a virus in a future season.

Last season we had a patient who had it ordered but it was not with his other meds in his med drawer. So I called pharmacy and asked them to send it up to us by the telecart system. The worker down there said oh, no...they had an instance of the Tamiflu pill getting 'lost" along the way and since each pill was so expensive management said it would be locked up in the omnicell from there on out on each floor instead of being sent up from pharmacy

the evidence that Tamiflu reduces complications, hospitalizations, or deaths is weak at best, and if the drug does offer any benefit, it is slight indeed. This is precisely the conclusion of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the UK’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). As we reported in our story in The Atlantic, the FDA directed Roche to state on the drug’s label the following caveat: “Tamiflu has not been proven to have a positive impact on the potential consequences (such as hospitalizations, mortality, or economic impact) of seasonal, avian, or pandemic influenza.” An FDA spokesperson told the BMJ, "The clinical trials . . . failed to demonstrate any significant difference in rates of hospitalization, complications, or mortality in patients receiving either Tamiflu or placebo.”
