One thing I recall about Watergate was the wasted surplus surrealism. There were a thousand bizarre things that would have stood out in a less weird period.
The Christie weirdness is so thick that gems can get overlooked.
Who, when asked whether they knew a guy (David Waldstein, a top Christie appointee to the Port Authority) who went to the same high school they did, answers this way?
I was class president and an athlete. I don't know what that guy was up to in high school.
I submit that the answer suggests that the speaker is a weirdo. It suggests, among other things, that Waldstein wasn't cool enough to know Christie, and we how could we not know that?
And is some adult actually bragging about being class president in high school? Is Christie Tracy Flick?
And if Waldstein is such a fricking SCRUB that Christie wouldn't have known him in high school, then why is he a long-time Christie advisor and a top appointee to the Port Authority?
"Madame governor, was Jane Doe a friend of yours in high school?"
"In high school I was the prettiest girl, and was voted homecoming queen. I can't be expected to know what Jane Doe was up to."
"In high school I was the prettiest girl, and was voted homecoming queen. I can't be expected to know what Jane Doe was up to."
Marsha, marsha, marsha!
