I've seen and heard the reports on the Soldotna web radio, and I realize that I was mistaken in my suspicions and should have waited after expressing my initial questions and omitted my hurtful remarks. The corroborating evidence shows the assault and DV incident actually occurred. I'm sorry for my remarks, and regret any damage you may have suffered as a result of my mistake.
I will strive to reign in my paranoia in the future.
Regards,

(16,327 posts)Most of us took RV at her word because of her very longstanding ties to our community. We tend to do that here. Nice to see someone admit they were wrong and to do it in a stand-up way.

(860 posts)I'm so glad to see that you apologized. Hearing that means a lot, even to people who aren't Roguevalley.

There have been hundreds of beatings since Roguevalley posted that story. The only thing unusual was the extent of damage to the woman's face. The WHO has estimated that 40% of female homicide victims are killed by intimate partners. http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/06/21/who-study-forty-percent-of-murdered-women-killed-by-their-partners
Your assertion that a case of domestic violence would have had to make the news? Jesus. There aren't enough hours in the day to cover all the cases of partner violence. You doubted the kind of story that happens in every town in this country. Even if the story had never made the news, something is really bizarre about your refusal to believe something like that. It's like refusing to believe a person drives drunk or a liquor store was robbed. That doesn't mean everyone who conveys such a story is doing so accurately, but the problem is so pervasive there is nothing unbelievable about it. The question is why you felt compelled to doubt the story? I hope you reflect on that.

(8,554 posts)of roguevalley's story fall right in line with the many reasons why there is such an epidemic of Domestic Violence in our nation.
One of the things that almost invariably will finally be discovered about the victims of DV is that they themselves suffer from self-doubt...were they themselves to blame - did they bring it upon themselves; was the violence really so bad - might it simply be normal to be mistreated; and (take note of this one), is it even worth it to tell someone about their abuse - will exposure only make things worse if they are not believed.
Reading that original thread and now, seeing your apology, reminded me of how often instances of DV turn into utter tragedies, simply because the warning signs were there for all to see, if people only looked closely enough and cared enough to take much-needed action.

(423 posts)I was, like everyone else, disturbed beyond comprehension by what roguevalley reported in that thread. But the way it was written up had the feel (to myself, at least) of genuine agony. Still, I hoped the whole story was bullshit. I'm disturbed all over again, now that I know it really happened.
We all needed it to be a lie, needed it for the sake of our souls and our humanity. Once the story was verified, I can see why you would want to apologize to roguevalley, but I can also see why so many of us were leaning toward believing the story was false.

(40,656 posts)was in me to be angry. This was so bad I wanted it to be wrong too. I wish I could have said HA HA! FOOLED YOU! Just know, Android that you are loved. We have to love each other. It is the only way war ends. I will keep everyone posted on her condition. She is on a respirator now and hopefully she will be able to be alright. I pray she is. I feel she is everyone's child. Take care and thank you, Android. You are a good soul.
