Nancy Pelosi Gives Republicans a Taste of Their 2014 ObamaCare Nightmare
By: Sarah Jones

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) gave Republicans a taste of their 2014 ObamaCare nightmare today, giving Republicans a hint of just how big of a fail their plan to run against Obamacare this election will be during her morning presser.

Ms. Pelosi expressed optimism regarding 2014, saying Democrats raised a lot of money in an off year, and that the money raised is a “statement of strength”. A reporter then asked her the predictable question from a media that don’t understand how a glitch in a rollout to a program that millions need won’t have a huge impact in 2014.

Pelosi has no plans to hide from ObamaCare. Instead, she owned it as a pillar of security. You heard that correctly — a Democrat owning one of their policies that will benefit the people. It’s a new day in politics.

The Democratic leader had clearly been waiting for someone to ask her this question about ObamaCare hurting Democrats in 2014. She beat the narrative to a pulp, and managed to claim the founding fathers while she was at it, “The affordable care act upholds the values of our founders… The legislation and the law is very strong, it sits right there as a pillar of security along with Medicare and Social Security.”

snip//

Nancy Pelosi is correct to boldly own ObamaCare and the positive change it will bring to millions, barring any huge problems. Republicans were hoping to force Democrats into running away from their biggest legislative success in years, but Nancy Pelosi isn’t going to let that happen.

Pelosi threw down the ObamaCare gauntlet. Game on.

She saved the entire bill from being defeated as Speaker of the House in 2010. She is the most powerful Speaker of the 21st Century and is the most powerful woman so far in U.S. history.

Most people do not realize that fact yet, but history will; just like LBJ getting so many domestic programs passed in 1964/65 that they would all be hard to list here. Nancy got over 140 bills passed into law on her watch as Madame Speaker. Way to go Nancy! She`s tough and a policy wonk! Republicans really fear her with good reason.

For a refresher watch this Meet the Press show back in November with Nancy Pelosi:

"Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi destroyed David Gregory and his Affordable Care Act lies on Meet The Press with a display of facts, truth, and no apologies."

http://www.politicususa.com/2013/11/17/nancy-pelosi-guts-david-gregorys-republican-talking-points-aca-lies.html

Nancy is so right, and she does only call it the "Affordable Care Act"!

There are few women that can put as much fear into men, and women, as Rep. Pelosi. And, she does it with a smile.

One of the greatest role models for women in our lifetime. Strong, independent, compassionate, intelligent and confident. Oh, and a helluva sense of humor!

Even sometimes begrudgingly. She never let a bill come up for a vote unless she knew exactly what the outcome would be. So she was never embarrassed or blindsided like boner is on a VERY regular basis. She ran a VERY effective and organized party, and chamber of government. She got a SHITLOAD done, too! The Congresses over which she presided actually got some things accomplished. And it SHOULD be referred to by its proper name, and NOT some bullshit frank luntz-fantasized nickname designed to add a subtle diss in there. Just like the Democratic Party should be referred to AS the Democratic Party. Because that's its name. PERIOD. Not some bullshit frank luntz-fantasized nickname designed to add a subtle diss in there.

Nancy didn't mess around. Nancy got things done. Nancy kept people in line and made them earn their pay, too!!!

Anybody remember the grousing and whining and sniveling that went on among the REAL Sore Loserman crowd when she took over - and one of her first official policy decrees was to mandate a FULL work WEEK of Congress - IN Congress? No more of this lax, lazy-ass bullshit of strolling in sometime Tuesday afternoon and putting in - gasp! A FULL work DAY on Wednesday - followed by a quick I'm-outta-here by Thursday afternoon. That's the way dennis hastert ran things before he lost the Speakership and wasn't even man enough to stick around and keep his basic seat and continue at least to represent the constituents who saw fit to send him to Washington on their behalf (who the hell knows why, though!). Compare that to Pelosi. She lost the Speakership when enough idiots on our side couldn't be bothered to show up to vote in 2010 and the CONS were allowed to take power back. But did she throw in the towel like another Sore Loserman? NO! She stayed to fight and lead her caucus. The WOMEN should lead (um - well, I'd make an exception for another woman who's nothing but a Sore Loserman and a first-class quitter: sarah palin). Some of the men in DC could take a lesson in how it's done.

They are already spending a shit load of money in NC to get rid of ANY democrats we have in Washington OR in the legislature in NC. They took over the state completely last election: republican house, republican senate and republican governor. Kay Hagan has been running AGAINST Obamacare ever since....she's not standing for ANYTHING except the TPP and trying to reinstate sanctions against Iran.

We need to get a real democrat in her seat if she's not going to step up to the plate.

Most of the negative things that Americans THINK they know about Canadian health care are fiction created by the right wing Canadian think tank, the Fraser Institute (and David Gratzer), the Koch brothers and American insurance company financed arm for delivering American insurance company propaganda to Americans about Canadian health care. The Koch brothers have sunk half a million dollars into the Fraser Institute the last three years.

The facts are that, in the last decade:
1) Only 0.11% of Canadians (3795) have gone to the US seeking medical treatment (380 a year)
2) 65,100 Americans went to Canada to seek medical treatment (6510 a year)
3) A total of 195,300 Americans ran away from American insurance run health care to seek medical treatment in any other nation. (19,500 a year)
4) The percentage of Canadians who say that Canadian health care is better than American insurance run health care in the US has risen from 91% to 94%. The percentage of Canadians who say that Canadian health care is better than American insurance run health care has never been below 90% from 1966 (when universal single payer health care began nationwide in Canada) to the present.

What American Democrats should force Republicans to do is to make a case for why the insurance takeover of American health care is good for Americans, while the insurance takeover of American health care leaves 40% of Americans uninsured or so vastly underinsured as to be unable to meet their medical needs, which leaves that 40% of Americans unable to see a doctor when they need to, and unable to get any form of medical treatment.

It's easy go make a case against something with straw men and scare tactics, but Republicans would be hard pressed to make a positive case for insurance run health care and the insurance takeover of American health care.

The insurance company bureaucrat who stands between Americans and a doctor, and who denies and rations the health care of Americans for profit would be very hard for Republicans to make sound good.

for helping make life more tolerable for millions of Americans. Many more of us are covered now, than before the Affordable Care Act. No one in a country with this much wealth should go bankrupt for vital surgery. I hope we some day remove egregious profits from health care, and toward health coverage for all.

I expected the WH to have an aggressive, contextualized PR campaign once the law was enacted.

They should have targeted those to benefit first with the right kinds of messages and media, i.e. in college markets touting that students could now stay on their parents' plans to age 26, to families with children that could not be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition, etc.

Then as the next phase was ready for implementation address that market and there should have been a big push going into 2014. I realize they may have held back because it appears they knew early on that the website had "issues" but they still could have touted the benefits of the law and to prepare the market for the website.....e.g. "the health care marketplace will be open on 01 October but we expect to experience some issues as the millions of uninsured Americans go online and offline to see their options".

I had expected key spokespersons in the Administration to take the lead in getting the message out. I had expected Democrats to be voicing public support for this in speeches, town halls, etc.

Rather, except for a few speeches by the President and HHS Secretary Sibelius, I didn't see much coming from the Administration. I also didn't see anything of note from key Democrats.

They should stand on this in this election. By November we will have a much better idea of how ACA is working but I suspect we will show that millions of previously uninsured Americans now have insurance and ACCESS to healthcare. The ACA isn't healthcare, it is health insurance reform. Further touting the big benefits of child coverage to age 26, no pre-existing denials, no lifetime caps, no gender discrimination, expansion of Medicaid and the subsidies.
