****WCGreen Update -- Saturday January 18, 2014****

A Christopher Green update from Laurie, his wife:

I went to see Chris yesterday and he looked at me! I found out he had been tracking with his eyes since Thursday afternoon. The guy from Pulmonology told me he asked Chris questions earlier and Chris nodded to answer! I asked Chris to squeeze my hand and he did. I told him about the gazillion well wishes, prayers, good thoughts, etc. He still is very sick, but I think yesterday's events are more like a giant leap!

and the next step will be weaning him off the vent. He'll need his meds titrated for at least a week after he's off the vent, but getting him out of bed and walking will speed his recovery up.

He's not going to like it.

I'm glad he's progressing. I hope he's able to complain to us soon. Complaining is the best sign of all.

My sister (double kidney/liver) transplant had a relatively easy time but even she ended up back in the hospital a few times.

She was at CPMC in San Francisco. She lives 3 hours from there and they required her to rent an apartment for the first 3 months in SF after she was released 3 weeks post-surgery, across the street from the hospital , because the potential for problems are so great.

Sounds like Chris has crossed a major hurdle today. Fingers cautiously crossed but be prepared for 3 steps forward, 2 steps back for a while. ..

He also had to have someone live with him for the three months - he is single so his three brothers took turns - amazing contribution to his return to health. I hope your sister is doing well and Chris does well.

I stayed the first 6 weeks. Our mom stayed the rest. My other sister came to move her out and move her stuff home. Its quite an ordeal. A full year before normality resumed.

I have high hopes for Chris. Hope you're BIL is doing great. My sister is approaching her 2year post op date.

I wonder if you're BIL stayed in the same CPMC apartments that we did. They were owned by the hospital. .. bet he did.
