And, Mayor Zimmer says they received $342,000. Even if they were only earmarked for 17 million it falls way short of what they requested or needed. 80% of the city was under water and over a year later all they have received is $342,000 to do what? Pay the postage on letters of apology for abandoning them after Sandy.
Everybody duck! The lies will be flying fast and furious next week. Some will be sharper than others, so if you're lucky instead of losing your head you'll simply be knocked out.

(1,694 posts)The report I heard did not say those were FEMA funds. Either way, the state is short changing a city that desperately needs help.

but when you go sign the papers, he hands you a check for $142.
Nice try, Colin Reed. Nice try for a third grader.

(108,955 posts)They've gotten about 12 million from Federal FEMA funds, half to individuals, and another 2 million from the FTA (Federal).

(4,219 posts)Most of the idiot comments I have read today on the national and local (to NJ) websites have said that Hoboken did not have that much permanent damage ($100 million worth) that wasn't covered by normal insurance. We all know that Hoboken was 80% submerged from Sandy, Mayor Zimmer wasn't asking for that dough to fix and/or rebuild like "down the shore"... Rather, if I heard her correctly this am, Hoboken wants the dough to PREVENT this from happening again. Didn't she mention talking to some experts from Holland about this. I doubt it was about tulips.
You will hear this meme over and over this week. Hoboken wanted MORE money than it was "entitled" to...
The answer is Hoboken wanted the $$$ to try to PREVENT 80% of the city from going underwater again, not for damages incurred by the actual storm.
It's an important point that Fox and the rest will get wrong.
They are already trying to confuse the issue with $350,00 given vs $70 million PROMISED but not yet given...
Same old shit, different day...

(1,694 posts)Prevention. So, they had damages that FEMA helped them with and funding was fought for with congress dragging its feet. They've been approved for a tiny piece of that, but they can't get it unless she plays ball. Pathetic.
