Assembly, Senate merge investigative committees

TRENTON – The two special committees investigating Bridgegate will join forces, Democrats announced Tuesday with the governor’s inauguration about 90 minutes away.

The two SCIs will merge and use former Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar as the special counsel, they announced. Schar was named by the Assembly SCI last week.

The 12-member panel will have eight Democrats and four Republicans, the leaders announced.

It will have five Assembly Democrats, three Senate Democrats, three Assembly Republicans and one Senate Republican.

It will be co-chaired Assemblyman John Wisniewski and Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg.
