How much news can we cover in three hours, Truthseekers? And where to begin?
Shall we begin with the latest senseless gun violence, this time at Purdue University?
One person was shot to death on the campus of Indiana’s Purdue University on Tuesday, and a male suspect was in custody, Reuters reports.The shooting took place around noon local time in a basement classroom of the university’s electrical engineering building. The shooter seemed to have had only the victim as his intended target, leaving the building immediately after the shooting, said Purdue University Police Chief John Cox. ”It’s just a tragic situation,” Cox said, adding that the shooter was taken into custody without a struggle. University officials said classes had resumed and the campus was considered safe, though the electrical engineering building remained closed.
Yawn. It’s not the last campus shooting Truthseekers, just the next one. The NRA will make sure of that.
Speaking of shooters, how scary are the Winter Olympics in Sochi? Black Widow assassins, Putin’s war on homosexuals . . . the US military actually has an “official” escape plan for our athletes. Yikes!
The U.S. military will have warships and transport aircraft at the ready in case American athletes and officials need to make an emergency escape from the 2014 Sochi Olympics. A contingency plan has been established in case “something happens like a major terrorist attack and we need to get Americans out,” an unnamed U.S. official told CNN.
Concerns about violence at the Games have run high since recent suicide bombings in nearby Volgograd killed 34 people. Sochi is located relatively near the North Caucasus region, where Islamist militants have waged a long, bloody insurgency. At the same time, CNN reported that authorities have handed out fliers in the Black Sea resort, warning hotels to keep an eye out for a potential female terrorist who may be in the area.
Not to be sexist, but would you let your little girl athlete compete in the figure skating this year? Hard to execute a triple-axle-double-toe-flip combo while dodging gunfire. I wonder if the judges will subtract points if the girls trade their leotard for Kevlar?
Chris Christie took his oath of office today, amid the ongoing “bridge-gate” controversy and with his comparisons of New Jersey to Washington, DC – he sure sounded like he had designs on the Oval Office. Even as new allegations emerge that Chris “Not a Bully” Christie withheld Hurricane Sandy relief funds in another round of political vengeance against a Democratic area of his state, as CNN reports:
In another controversy surrounding New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer said Sunday that Christie directly ordered the withholding of Superstorm Sandy recovery funds unless she backed a redevelopment plan he favored. Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Zimmer said she was told by a member of Christie’s administration that Sandy relief funds hinged on her support for a real estate development project and that the directive was coming directly from Christie.
“She said that to me — is that this is a direct message from the Governor,” Zimmer said, referring to Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who Zimmer said approached her in a parking lot in May to deliver the message. It’s “stunning” and “outrageous,” but true, the Hoboken mayor told CNN’s Candy Crowley. “I stand by my word.”
Rounding out the non-stop news coverage on the program tonight, updates on the Catholic priest molestation scandal, the hideous tortures in Syria, and former Virginia Governor McDonnell (and wife) are finally indicted for accepting illegal gifts.

When I moved to northern CA 32 years ago it rained nonstop from Nov to March. So far this winter we've had ONE day of rain.
