Water two weeks ago.
At Freedom Industries Bankrupcy hearing in Charleston, WV, Freedom Industries officials admitted that there was a second chemical in that tank. Something called PCH. Whatever the hell that is.
This has just now come to light. As of now the official word is, "We are waiting on the CDC to get backto us, and the National Guard is out again testing our water".
Thankfully our water is still so fouled very few people have been using it even after the all clear.
Sigh...

Bad shit, a lot of benzine in it.

Seems to be used in metal refining of fracking.

These might not be the correct chemicals for the "PCH" named in the post.

(2,807 posts)The astounding thing, to me anyway, is that this info only came to light after yesterday's Bankruptcy Hearing. I find that preposterous.

(64,988 posts)As i stated in other threads here about the spill, the coloration of the water was highly suspicious.
The originally reported chemical is a water white solvent and would not have discolored people's water supply.
Glycol ethers, especially if they're reclaimed, have the potential to undergo peroxidation at the ether lnkage a cyclize into larger molecules. The internal energy released at the molecular level has a tendency to impart color, particularly reds and yellows. That explains the orange water.

(55,745 posts)What DOW says it does for better profits:
DOWANOL PPh is a slow evaporating, very hydrophobic glycol ether. With its aromatic structure, this product is an excellent match for phenolic coatings and linings; it is also an excellent coalescent for acrylic-based latexes. DOWANOL PPh also offers excellent performance benefits as a dye solubilizer and carrier in dyeing applications, and it has superior viscosity reduction properties in metalworking fluids.

(10,495 posts)risks of harm their operations can cause. As a mass torts attorney, too frequently do I see minimum coverage and the shell company file bankruptcy. If they had to maintain coverage, they would have moved these tanks long ago and would not let them get in really bad shape. The rise in premiums hurt their bottom line so they watch it. Also, the insurance carriers would have someone inspect everytime it came time for renewal! Not fool proof, but much, much better!

(22,651 posts)But it took regular citizens using independent labs to DNA test 'beef' and expose it wasn't all beef. Then the industry gets in trouble.
I don't understand why regular people don't do independent tests. They should get the same results

From far away, I do not see your elected leaders coming forward with guidance and help. Do you see that in WV?

I had tentatively decided to send them a donation on Feb. 1st - in your view have they been helping the communities? We've got a lot of this nonsense down in Texas too and I really feel for you guys.
