"Traditional marriage" was about business (and homo-sex).

For most of humankind's civilization, marriage
1. didn't involve getting married by a priest.
2. was most of the time arranged by the parents.
3. wasn't about love.
4. was a tool for economic and political networking.

In Ancient Greece, since husband and wife only stayed together for the kids and weren't expected to provide mutual emotional support, the ideal marriage (according to those who could afford it) consisted of a wife and a homosexual lover.
