Not what one would normally expect from a thug, is it?
LOVE YOU SHERM!!!! FAN FOREVER!!!

(17,111 posts)However, he knew damn well that approaching Crabtree at that moment would set him off even if he was handing Crabtree a check for a brazillion dollars.
I won't bother to tell you what I said to my Mama right after my team lost a heartbreaking basketball playoff game in HS. It was worse than Sherman's rants or Crabtree's response. At that point, you never want to talk to someone who lost especially if they were in the big play.
BTW I hope people saw him when he talked yesterday. They saw a different side of Sherman that deserves to be acknowledged. He's smart, focused, relentless and savvy. I'd vote for him.

(15,888 posts)It may have been sportsmanship that got Richard Sherman into trouble rather than a lack of it. The Seattle Seahawks' All-Pro cornerback was fitted with a microphone for the NFC Championship Game and audio released by the NFL on Wednesday night sheds light on the heated moments before he delivered the boastful and rancorous postgame interview that stole the spotlight from his team's victory.
Sherman helped seal his team's spot in Super Bowl XLVIII by deflecting a pass intended for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree with just 22 seconds remaining in the NFC title tilt. After the victory-securing deflection, Sherman got to his feet and again chased down Crabtree. As the wide receiver was walking back toward the 49ers' sideline, Sherman slapped him on the butt and said "Hell of game!" Sherman repeated those three words and extended his hand to Crabtree. Rather than accepting the handshake, Crabtree shoved Sherman. He pushed his left hand into Sherman's facemask.

(15,888 posts)With the adrenalin flowing after being shoved in the face for extending his hand in a gesture of sportsmanship, what do expect him to say when a reporter sticks a microphone on him almost directly afterward? Oh, yeah, he "was taunting" the guy! No. He was angry at Crabtree. What would you do?
FSogol
(45,481 posts)He (Sherman) made a great play and won the game. He has every right to celebrate. Instead of celebrating, he slapped Crabtree on the ass and taunted him. Crabtree shoved him and got a penalty. Sherman then acted like the victim and has been doing it ever since. Stanford educated or not he missed the lessons on Sportsmanship. There are definite double standards on race in this country even in professional sports. Sherman is not an example of it.
Some further analysis: Since all that has happened, people have been been calling Sherman a thug and worse. He is not a thug, he exhibited poor sportsmanship. His nonsensical rant to Erin Andrews (she was expecting to interview a player happy with his great play and win) was made in the heat of the moment. That is understandable and does not make Sherman a thug. Having reporters stick microphones in your face at inopportune times is a common thing in sports. I'm sure Denver is quite happy that Sherman and his teammates are caught up in a media circus.

(15,888 posts)That's what you call taunting?

(45,481 posts)Yes, that is taunting.

(45,481 posts)Sherman got called for taunting, for making the "choke" gesture towards Kaepernik. Crabtree should have been flagged for interference, but wasn't.

(45,481 posts)As for the choke gesture, more awesome sportsmanship, right?

(7,947 posts)He could've easily waited until the clock said 0:00, and gone up to Crabtree and said good game, see you next year. To go up to Crabtree, in the endzone, just after the final real play of the game, in an emotional moment, and slap him on the ass...Sherman is smart enough to know exactly what was going to happen, which is exactly what happened.
If Crabtree caught the TD, and right away went up to Sherman in the endzone to say good game, I'm pretty sure Sherman isn't going to react to that too well. Nobody would.
I have no problem with what Sherman said after the game either. It was an emotional moment, and someone stuck a mic in his face. Certainly a more entertaining response than what people usually say in that situation.

(65,008 posts)That level of premeditation doesn't make sense since there is no way Sherman knew he would make a game saving play.
If you want to believe that he figured that quickly he would get exactly that reaction just moments after the play, ok.
I think that's a ridiculous leap.

(7,947 posts)It's just trash talking. Hawks/Niners might be the best rivalry in the NFL right now.
Sherman and Crabtree have a thing going on between the two of them. If it had been another receiver, Sherman probably doesn't do the same thing after making the play. He was just instigating. Just getting under a guy's skin. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with what Crabtree did in response either.

(39,343 posts)Screw that. He made a great play that sent his team to the Super Bowl. Hell yes you get to run your mouth a little.
I'm pulling for Sherman and the Seahawks.
Also, what he said about calling a black guy a thug being the new way to get away with calling him a N****, he's right. He's very eloquent and the racists hate it.
