This is the burning question of the day and Mike Huckleberry is busy shaking his finger and lecturing us on our bodies. I'm sick of these fundmentalist idiots.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2014/01/23/huckabee-dems-think-women-cant-control-their-libido/
Huckabee said Democrats tell women they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of government.

(27,315 posts)Obviously, it is still extremely offensive, but it is not the same thing. It is a concerted attack on Democrats by the GOP as out of touch with people. Huckabee went overboard.
The argument continues like this
Huckabee also urged the GOP to be more aggressive on income inequality, calling Democrats "the party that has preached poverty."
Did I not post the identical quote? He is still basically saying that we women cannot control ourselves or our bodies.

(12,081 posts)GOP needs to get the message across to women that they don't have to be victims of their gender. He is saying that women can't control their libido and that the democrats encourage this behavior by giving them birth control. Yes, the message is pretty loud and clear. It is an attack on both the democratic party and on women directly.

(37,364 posts)what he would consider appropriate policy for women. Let's get those little women in their place and rule like men.

(12,081 posts)the democratic party. I'm an independent now. Personally, I think the democratic party depends too much on these gender wars to get voters to the poles. It means they don't have to do any work themselves. As important as women's rights are to me, I will be voting on lots of issues in 2014 and 2016 including education and the economy, not just women's rights. So, if the democrats want my vote they better not rely soley on what the republicans have to say about women's bodies.

(37,364 posts)We worked too hard to get them to see them stripped away. I am a Democrat. As such, I will push to have the party address these policy issues as well as many others I am concerned about. The battle over women's rights is not a political construct to get votes. It is real and we see the effects in the laws that ALEC has forced into place in many states.

(12,081 posts)issue. Education will be really important to me in the coming elections and I am not impressed with the democrats' education policies.

I actually think some of the policies are ridiculous. Contraception is one hundred percent covered, but people still need to have co-pays and maybe all pay (depending on their plan) for medication.
But be honest. If insurance companies were not discriminating against women on the birth control issue, people wouldn't have pushed for this.
I'm all for some exemptions for religious reasons, but the rest of junk IMO.

(27,315 posts)I am not defending Huckabee. He is wrong whatever his rational is, and yes, I do agree with what you and others say.
But not understanding the message is what will doom us to failure. Whatever he may be thinking, he is not saying women are like that and what he is saying is part of a larger pattern by the GOP. We will ignore it at our own risks, because the message may resonate when said by people who are less stupid than Huckabee.
But we can also stop listening, saying we won this election, and stop campaigning on issues people care about.

(1,694 posts)I've been looking for him. If the democrats have him, tell them I said, "Send him home. Mama an' n'em been looking for him e'rewhere." And, if he's got the birth control pills, breast exams and Pap smears on him, don't let him misplace them before he gets here. Real women need that stuff.

(12,081 posts)My father and two brothers are all conservative Christians who all talk of how all women are out to get men. They all have horror stories of how a woman has hurt them. I've been hurt by men in my past, and I am not a man hater. These conservative Christians take it really hard when they are rejected or when they tell a woman what to do and they don't obey.

(9,314 posts)With the Republican Presidential pickings for 2016 getting slimmer by the day, Huckabee awakes to ask "what about me?" Deciding immediately he needed to get himself even more noticed by the Tea Party Crowd, he comes (pardon the expression) out with these extremely titillating words to attract sudden media attention.
The only thing more provocative than a woman with a libido out of control is a Southern Baptist minister zeroing in on it.
