1. I've had that argument with denyiers a few times
They never have an answer and they ignore it since it doesn't fit in their brains.

2. Exactly....
It causes massive brainfarts within the climate change deniers, because it didn't come from Fox Propaganda.

18. As Bill Maher says they live in a bubble that is impervious to facts.
Recently on Bill's show he had an executive from GM that was criticizing Pres Obama for daring to encourage people to go to college. He said that there are other great opportunities than college like trade schools. Two of Bill's panel members were trying to interrupt his diatribe explaining that that was exactly what the Pres had said. But the executive was in the bubble and acted like he couldnt hear them. His mind was made up and no amount of facts could change it.

14. I think that's my all time favorite Bushism...
... you just know it was something said to him in a "strategery" meeting with no thought given to the possibility he would repeat it in front of other people. I bet handlers literally crapped their pants.

Their lifestyle. The oily right gives them permission to sit on their asses and do nothing to save their children's lives.

13. Entrenched interest that would rather we die than change their way of doing business.
“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”

16. I was thinking last night about all the hidden costs of oil.
Our wars in the Middle East. If we were not so hungry for oil, the angry folks in the Middle East would not have enough money to wage effective terrorist attacks.
We forget all the hidden costs. |

17. Add oil pollution, and the use of petroleum-based fertilizers and plastics....
The early petroleum industry sabotaged the Edison-Ford electric efforts, then used Prohibition to stamp out alcohol as a fuel.
Next they blocked hemp from competing with their petroleum by-products, bought and dismantled the electric trams and trains, and Carter's goal of developing other-fueled fleets got handled by Reagan and quickly-lowered gas pricing. Now we're getting inflationarily gouged for excess profits. Lots of hidden costs there, lots. |

20. +1
So much truth in so few sentences. So many Americans absolutely oblivious to what you stated. They don't even think about the influence big oil has had on our culture for such a long, long time.
How much influence has big oil had on squelching funds for public transportation? Why are we stuck with 20th century technology in regards to high speed rail? Why do so few communities have a decent system of bike trails? How much better health would we as individuals have, if we walked more? How much of our culture, that we take for granted without consideration, was molded & shaped by big oil? |
