How Revenge Porn King Hunter Moore Was Taken Down
It's important to give a SHITLOAD of credit to Charlotte Laws for working very hard to make this happen.
An indictment from the FBIs LA bureau suggests the market price for nude pics is low. Moore allegedly offered Evens $250 for naked photos of 6 guys and 6 girls. Evens, a 25-year-old from Studio City, California, allegedly hacked into peoples Gmail and Yahoo email accounts a tried and true method and grabbed photos from there, even allegedly managing to circumvent Googles two-factor authentication with some social engineering.
According to the indictment, which lists victims only by their initials, Evens started hacking for Moore in October 2011. Acknowledging that what they were doing was illegal, they created new email addresses to try to keep it from being linked to them. Evens would submit the hacked photos via the sites submission platform. Moore at one point also used his mothers email address, notes the FBI in the indictment.
From December 2011 to March 2012, Moore allegedly paid Evens over $2000 for the hacked selfies of 7 individuals. One of those victims, K.L., is Kayla Laws, a 25-year-old aspiring actress in L.A. who went public about appearing on the site claiming that she had taken sexy photos with her phone that she had emailed to herself, but that she never shared them with others. She said they could only have been obtained through hacking. Her mother, Charlotte Laws, became fanatical about taking down Hunter Moore and getting states to pass laws criminalizing posting peoples nude photos without their permission. California and New Jersey are the only states that currently have anti-revenge porn laws. I think its safe to say that Moore and IsAnyoneUp were on California lawmakers minds a few months ago when they passed that law.
