After all...opiates* for the masses to suppress popular rebellion is not a new concept.
*Marijuana is not an opiate, but has sedative characteristics.

(15,024 posts)Revolutionary-era Americans were heavy imbibers. In fact, the first major protest after the Constitution was ratified was the Whiskey Rebellion, caused by the government's decision to levy a heavy tax on one of the favored drinks in the West.
