Did boy shoot sister over laundry?

Relatives and police on Friday called on a 14-year-old boy to surrender in connection with the fatal shooting of his 17-year-old sister in Oakland's Chinatown, a killing that happened after the siblings argued over laundry.

Justice Toliver was shot in the family's fifth-floor apartment on the 800 block of Franklin Street about 12:15 p.m. Thursday, police said. She died at the scene, said Officer Johnna Watson, a police spokeswoman.

Watson said police are searching for the victim's brother, Mario Toliver. Family members and acquaintances said he had shot his sister and that the two had been arguing, most recently about clothes of his that had been damaged in the laundry.

"Typically, we do not release the name of a juvenile, but the law does allow us to do it, especially in a case where public safety is concerned," Watson said. "We do know that a firearm was used in (Thursday's) homicide. We have not recovered that firearm. We believe he may still have it. We are considering him armed and dangerous."

There are guns available for anyone who has the cash. I'm not saying that's where this kid got a gun but you asked.

I worked in a treatment center at one point with adolescents. We had one kid who was admitted by his parents for substance abuse but other kids let us know that he was someone you could buy a gun from. This was not in a poor neighborhood - your average middle class suburban area and he was a 16-yr old high school student. Ease of procuring weapons is a big problem. You have to go through many more hoops just to drive a car.

the event right before the attack is what caused the attack, as opposed to one of many, many things.

Flashing gang signs in the profile pick, crude disgusting language, no indication of healthy interests in anything, just a wasted life.

What might have been.
