BEREA, Ohio - MetroPet Veterinary Clinic in Berea is asking the community to help save a ferret and give him a chance at the life he always deserved.

Ramona Lowry, Ph.D. of MetroPet Veterinary Clinic told NewsChannel 5 that Makael, a ferret that was recently surrendered to Healing Heart Ferret Rescue, has seen a significant amount of neglect and is in need of extensive medical attention.

"MetroPet Veterinary Clinic has worked with this rescue many times in the past, as well as other rescues, and Dr. Alice Toriello wishes to bring more attention to the plight of pocket pets such as ferrets," Lowry said. "Most people are very aware of rescues that deal with cats and dog, but ferret rescues are often forced to remain in the shadows."

If you would like to help Makael, MetroPet Vet Clinic is accepting donations on his behalf. Call MetroPet at 440-826-1520. MetroPet is located at 298 North Rocky River Dr. in Berea.

Poor little guy. I've owned ferrets in the past and they're such sweeties.

Just thought I'd post this for some exposure, hoping that Makael can get the help that he needs.

Please disregard~

BEREA, Ohio - UPDATE from Dr. Lowry: "I do sadly have to report that the neglect suffered by Makael was too severe and far-gone for us to correct. Aside from no longer wanting to eat, being covered in sores, and having a massive tumor, we found out Makael also had an aggressive form of cancer. The rescue group, due to his very weak condition, decided that euthanasia was the best option. "
