For many years I believed that the anti Roe v Wade fight was just a cover for eliminated family planning altogether. The GOP and its fundamentalist allies are now out in the open about their desire to make family planning essentially a thing of the past. The have embrace the same Catholic dogma that women must accept all the children they can possibly have until their ovaries dry up. If you look at all the rhetoric and action by the GOP they are engaged in a neo Puritan agenda that is about taking us back to 1600. We must openly and militantly resist what they are doing. They have declared war on sexuality and are determined to win it no matter what lies, distortions and manipulations they have to use to achieve it. They have the radical churches on their side who are active in influencing elections to get stealth theocrats into office nationally.
The GOP has a fetish about controlling the sex lives of everyone of child bearing age. The GOP is now doubling down on the fight to end family planning even for their own supporters. What the GOP really wants is to make divorce illegal or difficult, forced counseling for people divorcing or about to marry, covenant marriage you cannot get out of, complete male authority over women in marriage, criminal penalties for homosexual activity and unapproved sex etc. And the list is endless. Where ever some GOPPER makes some outlandish statement or pushes some initiative about human sexuality is where the GOP really is at the national level. And the GOP will do just about anything to give these radical churches what they want as long as the GOP gets power.
The question is where is the backlash strong enough to toss most of the GOP out on its ear. If the polls are accurate at all they are still favored to keep a substantial amount of their power at the state level where they have now taken the fight until they can dominate the national agenda on reproductive rights. The seem to be succeeding despite some set backs in the courts.
The Texas debacle is where the GOP is actually going on the issue of reproductive rights. I am personally taken aback about how we are now moving backwards on women's rights. Now women have to re fight a battle they supposedly won staring in the 1960's.
As a counter attack someone should push back with another attempt to ratify or pass the Equal Rights Amendment and force the conservatives to take a public stand on women's rights in general. The ERA would settle the issue on family planning and equal pay once and for all.

(10,602 posts)Huckabee's statement is EXACTLY where the GOP establishment is on sexuality. GOP males believe they OWN their women. And too many women are foolish enough to accept that. Just look at the meme about a woman must marry to stay out of poverty. They demonize women who are single and working in a career.

(2,673 posts)Yes, you are right, this is the long range goal of a certain republican group of religious righties. A man and woman marry, no birth control, no divorce and the woman is inferior to the man and must obey him in all matters. Now according to M. Huckabee, the woman also cannot control her sexual desires. He must think the man has to be in charge of that too!

(30,058 posts)halt birth control in any fashion and to only have sex to procreate. The truth continues to come out. The GOP rants and raves about too much government and now they are diving into our personal lives. This is an overreach which will not be tolerated. The tired old white men are overstepping, they need to go home and be quiet and allow the reasonable sane people to take their place. How in the hell can a female vote for the republican candidates is beyond my reasoning I also think there are lots of men on our side also, the Huckabees and Santorums needs to go home and get out of our lives.
