(22,000 posts)But I support legalization. The ballot measure in Oregon a year and a half ago needed to be written better. I also think the hindsight of having Washington and Colorado working through the issues of legalization will help other states.
The ballot in Oregon in November is going to be packed with ballot measures I think. Should be very interesting.

(18,219 posts)My take on it is "been there, done that". I am just glad that I didn't acquire any addictions in my youth because, god knows, it could have been a distinct possibility...too much of a lot of things.
And I agree with you, it should be legalized. There is no good reason not to, with tobacco and alcohol legal, weed is definitely safer than either of those.

(25,586 posts)No sort of intoxication has ever appealed to me, really.
I grew up with parents who sold pot in sometimes-huge quantities and who used it pretty much non-stop. I hated the smell and ritualistic trappings of it as a child and disliked the way it made everyone act like a bunch of fucking morons, and as an adult I feel nauseous just smelling the stench of it pouring off those who use it.

I rarely use either reefer or alcohol anymore, but I'm certainly not embarrassed about my past usage. Is it the illegality thing I wonder?

(8,879 posts)were legal, I would do that. I wouldn't go out and smoke, or really even use it socially. I would just use it when my day is done and I want to have a little time to relax and enjoy being high. Is that bad?

(5,264 posts)Never intended to make a career out of it, and haven't used it for a long time. I'm tempted to say I never will, but - never say never - I would if it was necessary for medical purposes. I support full legalization.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)I smoked the crap out of it as a youth, never had a problem with it, it was never a big deal to stop, and as I got older I moved on from being a pothead. Haven't smoked it in years but I am not actively NOT smoking it, it's just not really part of my schedule.
I never had any problem smoking it despite it being illegal- so my support for legalization has more to do with prohibition being a dumb idea, an anti-freedom wasteful clusterfuck, than anything else.
That said, am I like "ohmigod if someone passes me a joint at a Ratdog show no way would I ever take a hit off of it?" No, not gonna say that either.

(9,148 posts)Of course I've used it in the past & would certainly do so again for medicinal needs. That covers a broad spectrum, from pain management to stress or anxiety on any level. Perhaps we'd become a kinder & less murderous society if more people chose pot before prozac. Just sayin

back when i smoked pot (not since '79) friends used to laugh because i always fell asleep.
they told me the medical was strong and i only had 2 tokes. amazing how the body changes in it's reaction to different things.
that's why i answered that i used it, but would never use it again.

He wouldn't become informant. A long time ago, I sold weed and mushrooms to an attorney I knew of from the area. He has now become a Judge. (22,457 posts)People join NORML, there are dozens of forums about growing pot (grasscity.com), there are magazines like High Times. And you think the DEA is going to get a subpoena for the DU and then get the IP address and then get a subpoena for the internet provider and then start following them to arrest them for pot?
LOL, yes paranoid!

Totally different from what you're saying now.
And, by the way, people that go into shops that have equipment for growing hydroponic are often raided simply because they went into that shop. Happens all the time. In fact, sometimes they even request lists of customers.

(2,086 posts)We get it, you don't approve. Some of us like to chat about things we find interesting. You can always move on to another thread if it bothers you.
As to your LE fears, I can assure you that SWAT isn't going to kick in my door over my 1 plant. Do you really think your local constable is perusing DU with the intent of finding all the retired white-guys who grow a single plant in their suburban basements?
Locals don't have the time or resources to concern themselves with me, and DEA is a business. If they can't get free press-coverage/advertisement or confiscate substantial property value or cash, they aren't interested.
So, thanks for your concern but I think we'll all be OK, despite our public confessions.

(22,271 posts)and never hiding the fact that I partake of the ganja regularly, yeah, I partake of the ganja regularly and have for 40 years. I've always used it to self-medicate for anxiety and as I get older I find it's GREAT for arthritis.
This last summer I went to visit relatives in the Bible Belt and so was without it for 10 days. By the end of that 10 days my fingers hurt so bad I could barely use them. One of the first things I did when I got home was smoke a bowl. Within 24 hours my hands were back to normal.
Logical
(22,457 posts)And it is a shame that this drug is still illegal. We need studies to prove that pot is helpful.
The next step is to stop it from being a schedule one drug.
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)there have been studies. Virtually all of them tout the benefits of cannabis. If PO wanted to re-assign it as a Schedule II or III, even though it's about as harmful as a piece of lettuce, he has the ability to do that. Most people are unaware that it was Nixon who scheduled it to I originally. He talked Congress into allowing him the ability to Schedule a "drug" specifically so he could place cannabis on the Schedule I list. What a president can add, a president can also take away because, as far as I know, that law is still on the books. Obama has chosen not to do that. (That's as kind as I can be about Obama on this issue.)

(1,031 posts)I enjoy smoking pot, always have. However, I do not smoke on a regular basis and on the rare occasion that I do I take a significant risk to my employment.
The company I work for has a two strike policy, the first dirty test gets you placed into a drug education program that you have to pay for and complete on your own time. The second within the next five years gets you fired. And after the first you have mandatory monthly urine screens for a year.
It just isn't worth it. The government making it legal will not make the employment drug test go away, it will be decades after that before the employment drug testing begins to relax ... by that time I will be retired, and smoking whatever I want whenever I want.

(10,440 posts)Been that way every day of my life since 16 or so....(Smoked pot since 13 but not everyday). If not? Well, I am a crazy mofo.
I've always treated the early AM as my time, and especially now with me caregiving, I ahve a few hours to groove, create, and all that, before my charge gets up. Been that way for a long time.
Ten years ago, after a series of incidents, I was diagnosed with depression and given Zoloft. I stopped smokig pot, at least as much but there was a problem. I hated it, told the doc after 8 weeks or so and he prescribed doubling the dose. In 8 more weeks, my life was over. I flipped out completely.
I kept on with it for a while and really hated myself a lot. Finally, I went back to puffing and poof, I am focused and doing better. I never get depressed to the point of suicide, but in that Zoloft period (look it up on my posts) you can see that I was incredible depressed then and when not toking up all day.
If I only have a teeny, bit I will save it for the morning. Makes my day. Gets my brain going, I believe that it helps me think.

(13,141 posts)it seemed because they inhibited my ability to feel
or care about much of anything. I became a functional
robot, basically. The urge to drink or smoke pot was
never stronger, than when I was taking those anti-
depressants.
The urge for pot does, for me, have something to
do with not only lighting up my creative brain but also
accessing deep emotions. A human being is by design
a feeling machine.
I've got a medical card here in NM, it's been the
first time in my life that I've smoked pot this
regularly for this long. Many pros, and a few cons.

(46,179 posts)I used pot as a teenager in the 70s. By the time I hit adulthood, I had too many responsibilities and too few resources to party, and left it behind. (64,982 posts)because my deafness is caused by Meniere's disease, and twice in the 1980s I had a Meniere's vertigo attack after smoking a joint, so I suspect that weed can trigger them.
But since I am not certain that the attacks were triggered by weed rather than coincidental, I *might* try again if it were legal, since it is a safe, nonaddictive substance for relieving very serious chronic pain, which I suffer from.

(22,336 posts)I put that I wouldn't, but now that I think of it, I have some health problems that might warrant trying it, if it were available. Who knows.
