Paul Broun is proud to be offering his 'grassroots supporters' a weapon of mass destruction to start off the New Year.
Wingnut Georgia Rep. Paul Broun is running for the Senate in Georgia. He sent this out yesterday to his email list.
The disconnect is just amazing. When I see the designation M.D. behind someone's name, I'm not really expecting to see them giving away instruments of mass death.
Your teabaggers at work, folks.

How awful.

(21,596 posts)I am beyond words.
I heard about this on the local NPR radio station local news broadcast yesterday.
I met his father, Paul Broun, Sr., who was my longtime (30 years) (D) GA state senator and I've met his brother, who is a local realtor.
Paul Broun, Jr. must have been dropped on his head as a baby.
I have a hard time imagining how he ever got a medical degree.

(21,596 posts)Broun was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Gertrude Margaret (née Beasley) and Democratic Georgia state senator Paul Collins Broun, Sr. (19162005), who represented Athens and the surrounding area from 1963 to 2001. His paternal grandfather was a minister.[3] Broun is a graduate of Athens High School and the University of Georgia at Athens (B.S., Chemistry, 1967) and earned his Doctor of Medicine (1971) from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.[4] His internship was at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon and residency at University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He then practiced general medicine; starting in 2002 he maintained a practice based solely on house calls. He is not licensed to practice medicine in any Georgia hospital.
Many fine physicians and surgeons are graduates of the Medical College of Georgia.
However, I do not include Paul Broun, Jr. among them.

(13,340 posts)And MD is to biology as an engineer is to physics. Sure, you need to understand the fundamentals to get the degree, but much of the practical application does not require actually understanding the actual theory. For example, as an engineer, I don;t really have to understand, or even "believe" particle physics, at least, not for the kind of engineering I do. For the most part, Newtonian physics is suitable for everything I do.

(9,350 posts)What about black people? So if a black person comes up to him, will he give that person a gun? My thing would be to get a large number of black people to show up saying they support him and would like a free AR-15. It would be very fun to see if he would actually give them AR-15s. My guess is he would not do so. At best he would say the black person is a not really one of his supporters. At worst he would say the person is just a lazy cheap skate who wants a free gun.

(47,953 posts)State Sen. Lee Bright (R-Spartanburg) has branded himself the pro-gun candidate in this years South Carolina Senate race, and is showing it in a bold way: by raffling off an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle.
Bright, who is competing along with three other Republicans to unseat Sen. Lindsey Graham in the primary, announced the raffle in an email on Thursday, touting it as a show of his support for the Second Amendment.
I know the anti-gun media may hate it, Bright says in the email. I know the political talking heads may sneer as they continue blaming guns and law-abiding gun owners for the acts of thugs and madmen. But I am THE pro-gun, pro-Constitution candidate in this race for the U.S. Senate and I cant think of a better way to get that word out than by giving away a brand new AR-15.
Not living up to his name, is he?

The teabagger gun giveaway is in direct response to asshats like Bloomberg and the rash of ill-conceived attempts to cure violence with legislation of the tools of violence rather than treatment of the perpetrators and root causes.
