Veteran CBS host laughs in Cruz’s face after he repeatedly denies shutting down government

“The question I asked you was, would you ever conceive of trying to shut down the government again?” Schieffer pressed, clearly not buying in to the alternate reality.

“As I said, I didn’t threaten to shut down the government the last time,” Cruz insisted. “I don’t think we should ever shut down the government. And I repeatedly voted…”

“Well,” Schieffer interrupted, laughing out of frustration. “If you didn’t threaten to shut down the government, who was it that did?”

“President Obama,” Cruz said.

There should be some scientific study on this phenomenon. Republicans know they can rely on their sheeple to stand by whatever they say no matter what. It could be a complete 180 from the previous day, makes no difference.

It doesn't matter even if their is video evidence. This pathetic tactic has almost single-handedly kept The Daily Show going with material. (But wingnuts won't watch Jon Stewart of course because FOX tells them not to)

This phenom is what will have Chris Christie bounce back like a giant beach ball. He's a victim after all, of the liberal media. Its an attack on American Family Values, when they accuse him of lying. Almost as bad as the War on Christmas.

Its why a Con like Rob Ford in Toronto might even get re-elected. His rabid supporters still believe it was the Toronto Star reporters that had it in for him who were the most responsible and they lied about seeing some crack video. He's just a normal guy like them who likes to blow off steam once in awhile which gets overblown by a vindictive media with a liberal agenda.

But it all sucks because it means progressives will always have to play with a disadvantage. We are too stubborn and smart and want the truth no matter what. So if Obama does something we don't like we shout about it, even if it makes him look bad. (no apologies here) Whereas Republican supporters turn to FOX or Rush etc. and wait for them to tell them not to worry, its actually all the other sides fault. AND THEY ALWAYS BELIEVE IT. Mostly because they can't handle the fact that they may just have been taken for fools. (which they are)

To put any strings or holds on paying our debt that has already been accrued will only cost us.

If we wish to save money and improve the US economy, then we must get more money in circulation by raising minimum wage increasing food stamps, promoting national production for better trade, and stopping the give away of tax revenues to profit abundant companies and individual billionaires. We should not let our natural resources be plundered by unregulated reckless tycoons and we must must remember that if we promise to pay for things we bought on credit our word is our bond.

Am I right or is the RW correct to tie our debtors to our future spending?

Obama - pass a budget with Obamacare funded
Cruz - I will only allow a budget without Obamacare funded.

It's no more valid to say that Cruz caused the shutdown by not giving in to Obama

than it is to say that Obama caused the shutdown by not giving in to Cruz.

It depends which side you are fighting on, and how you feel about Obamacare and/or the legislative process.

We blame Cruz because we wanted him to give in to Obama. They blame Obama, or Reid, because they wanted Obama and Reid, to give in to Cruz.

17. I disagree
Sun Jan 26, 2014, 06:35 PM
Jan 2014

Cruz wasn't legitimately using the legislative process. ACA wasn't part of the bill Cruz and Boehner were blocking. Cruz was blocking the yearly discretionary funding bill that ACA had little to nothing to do with. The ACA was already legislated and signed law which included it's own funding. The only way Cruz could stop ACA was to pass another law through both houses with either a presidential signature or a veto proof majority in the Senate.

So it really has nothing to do with which side of the issue you're on. It has to do with whether you think one house of congress should be able to obstruct nearly the whole of government as leverage to overturn an issue that had already been legislated and settled without having to go through the legitimate legislative process required to do so. Even the majority of Republicans, most of which were on the other side of ACA, did not believe that.

You can not pretend that this is a simple matter of perspective, Obama was asking for a clean bill and Cruz was demanding the repeal of a law that had already been passed in exchange for keeping the government running.

Cruz does not have the votes in the Senate to repeal Obamacare nor can he expect Obama to sign such a repeal. The voters gave control of the White House and the Senate to Democrats and therefore Cruz is not going to get everything he wants, but to shut down the government because he does not have the votes to get what he wants is not acceptable.

You are using a dishonest false equivalence, no surprise coming from you however.

Cruz was making a wholly unrealistic demand on President Obama and the Democrats in Congress. Plus, the polling has never indicated a clear desire to repeal the law nor does the public universally hate the law, only parts of it. The more people get insurance via ACA and feel the benefits, the fewer people will want it repealed. The Republicans may win some skirmishes but they have effectively lost the war.

That's how they convinced so many people that supply-side economics works. People have been conditioned to believe that the government can't work, and Republicans have worked hard to make sure that it doesn't work.

You need to start a thread about brainwashing techniques and how some people in government use it. You're far more knowledgeable about it than I am. It's a complicated, confusing subject, but I think a lot more people need to know about it so they can spot it when certain people use it in media and government. If more people learn about this shit, I think we'll see a turning point in this war that's being waged on the people.

why I don't watch that kind of thing, she. I was damn near apoplectic in 2002 when I dropped corporatemedia of any kind. I couldn't handle them saying stuff on tv that I knew wasn't true or building a "narrative" to gel with the message they wanted to push.

That's why someone pushing back on cruz is so deliriously happy inducing! And, Bob Scheiffer of all pundits.. even he couldn't take it.

“Senator, I know what Republicans were telling me — like [House Speaker] John Boehner — that this was a disaster and never again,” Schieffer shot back, frustrated but also clearly amused at the senator’s talking points."

"Lying" point.

Slimy piece of fascist shit.

What!?! Sorry, she..

Back in the 70's, when I was very young, I threw an ashtray at the tv because Nixon's face was all over the screen, lying his ass off.
The man gave me waves of revulsion, just to look at him.

Poor child groom came home from work and simply could not understand what being cooped up in a house all day with 2 kids and then having to look at Nixon could do to a woman.
but he promptly went out and bought another tv, a newer one, so I figured it was a win-win deal.

I am afraid I did put the ex thru some changes......

Congress created the financial mess with their expensive knee-jerk wars & now they're wanting to force Obama to inflict the financial blowback on the most vulnerable citizens.

very smart. He knows exactly what he is doing. His fellow Republicans need to out him for who he truly is or they will rue the day that they didn't. He is a dictator in the making. IMHO.

how Republicans can continually deny their involvement in the government shutdown. Even their own Speaker of the House said it was his own party who did it. Yet just a few days ago a friend I was talking to, a Republican, was bitching about Obama shutting down the government. I asked him if he really believed it was Obama and not Ted Cruz and the Teaparty/Republicans. Now he thinks I'm a biased Democrat, which I suppose I am. Actually I'm a former Ind. who no longer even considers voting for anyone with a R by his name. Do they not listen or do they refuse to hear?
