Do you remember the Superfund? It was set up in 1980. This site was one of the first to be designated.

It is still not cleaned up.

But it is true that we must do something to clean up all the toxic waste sites in this country.....and that is not high on the priority of any party.

Good to know that people are still thinking about it.

Right next door to the popcorn factory on he south end of town.

Both closed down and were Superfund sites because of the battery poisons.

They have both been torn down and cleaned up but as far as I know nothing has been built there yet.

I still live in the area and just talked to my brother, he drives past it often, and he says there are still open fields there overgrown with weeds.

It started out as an auto junk yard. They were there for about 30-40 yrs. They got into recycling and tried to do it on the cheap. Then someone tested some water wells and they tested high in lead and other heavy metals.

They shut them down pretty quick. It was in the early to mid 70's.

About 5 miles. They (the tax payers!) cleaned it up as best as it could be. It is a nice state park now (Route 66). It is kind of odd/creepy in some places because it is roads where people's homes used to be.

I rode through there on a bicycle once, when the town was still occupied. My biggest memory is a huge slag heap on the edge of town.

Is this why all the small streams by my house have an oily film on them? Even when it rains, the water puddles look oily.

limit the job creators in their quest to create good paying American jobs. I kid.
