(579 posts)I wonder what caused him to do this? Domestic violence? Bullying? At least he didn't grab a gun and go on a rampage.
Hope he makes a recovery and gets the help he needs.

I wouldn't discount plain old stupidity.

(579 posts)My oldest brother, dumbass that he is, set himself on fire one Thanksgiving by dropping a turkey in one of those deep fryers, literally dropping it in and splashing cooking oil all over his arm and leg, burned him pretty damn good.

(10,440 posts)That our children are going insane right before our eyes. As culture gets more violent, as TV captures more and more of child's time, filling their heads with non stop violence, things get more and more tragic for them all. Some can't handle it. More and more are thinking shit they see in games or the movies is real.
More prescription drugs, more of this as well. if only ther was some type of plant that would mellow people out and make them find beauty in everything.......

(30,481 posts)Guess I just don't have that gene in me. A kid set himself on fire and you are relieved it wasn't a gun. Gunz aren't any part of the story. Very strange. You will be happy to know that horrors occurred in peoples lives all across the country yesterday that didn't involve guns. If you are not aware of this, I suggest you search for something other than gun related news events on google.

(5,179 posts)Lots of us, when we hear about a student violently self-destructing at school, think of guns. It's not a gene. It's what we see on the news almost every day. Pattern recognition.
This is a horrible incident, but I'm glad the kid didn't try to kill anyone else.

(30,481 posts)you think of gunz?

(5,179 posts)It's pretty sad that this is our first reaction.
Nevertheless, there must be some traumatized people at that school today. Teachers should get combat pay at this point.

(20,277 posts)Severe burns like that are beyond painful, aside from the who knows what horror that drove the kid to do this.
I don't think it was cool or necessary to drag 'gunz' into this.

(19,497 posts)I can't help but come to the conclusion that what we are witnessing isn't about accessibility to Item X but the perpetrator's quest for notoriety. Sadly, the media sensationalizes beyond mere reporting and opportunists gobble-up shattered lives which is feeding the attraction.
