Not long ago, Senator Bernie Sanders inquired in writing to Alexander of the NSA whether or not the NSA was spying on the Congress? He never really answered the question...
We can assume that the NSA is spying on Republicans also. It would be terrible to think that they are only spying on Democrats.

(84,711 posts)were broken into? The report said that the Dems and Repugs shared Computer System.
At the time...(and this is way back) we here thought that was really strange...
Now I wonder what we would think of that?
So...it would seem that if they were sharing computers "way back in Bush I's first term...one would wonder if they ever changed that system.
Something to think about. Hopefully you or other DU Legacy remember that.

(9,958 posts)Manual Miranda joined the staff of the Judiciary Committee in December 2001. A short
time after Mr. Miranda was hired, the clerk showed him how he could access Democratic files.
The clerk who initially discovered how to access the files told investigators that he was not sure
what to look for in the files, so Mr. Miranda would guide him as to what infonnation was helpful.
Mr. Miranda would often suggest which directories he should concentrate on and would
sometimes tell him that there was something new in a particular folder and ask the clerk to print it
for him. Mr. Miranda admitted accessing the computer files ofDemocratic staff himself on one or
two occasions.
The Nominations Unit clerk explained that he frequently searched the folders ofsome
Democratic staffon an almost daily basis while working on the nomination of Judge Priscilla
Owen. In fact, over the course of accessing other users' files for approximately 18 months, the
clerk downloaded thousands of documents. Forensics analysis ofa compressed zip folder from
his workstation where he kept these documents identified 4,670 flies, the majority of which
appeared to be from folders belonging to Democratic staff. During the approximately 18 months
the clerk accessed other users' files, he stated that he had four or five different computers
assigned to him and that regardless ofthe hardware he used he was able to access this
information.
In January 2003, Mr. Miranda left the Judiciary Committee and took a position in the
office of Majority Leader Frist. The Nominations Unit clerk and Mr. Miranda both admitted that
the clerk continued to provide Democratic - and also Republican - documents to Mr. Miranda
after he left the Judiciary Committee. Forensic analysis of the e-mail traffic between the two
confirms this. In March or April 2003, the clerk was re-assigned to another Unit in the Judiciary
Committee. About the same time (April 2003) the Committee's server was upgraded and the
clerk believed that prevented him from being able to acccss other users' files on the server.
~snip~
The Committee's servers were configured in a way that a Local drive/partition contains
the Server Operating System and related utilities, this is known as the server "C:" drive. There
also exists a server "E:" drive. This particular local drive/partition contains data files, such as user
home directories and shared directories. The System Administrator is responsible for security
settings or permissions on the various folders on this drive or partition to allow (or not allow)
them to be "shared" with users on the network. The practice in the Judiciary Committee is to
"share" certain files among staff working for the same Senator. Users access the folders by
mapping them to a drive letter (e.g., H: or S: ) that they use just like a drive on their individual
workstations.
Specific to each user's desk workstation is a Local "C:" drive that contains the
workstation Operating System, applications, and data fIles. Additionally, the "H:" drive (as
stated above) is also seen and is "mapped" to a user's home directory on the file/print server. An
"8:" drive is also "mapped" to the shared folder on the file/print server.
Each user should have exclusive access to his or her own directory. As the name implies,
more than one user typically has access to any shared folders on the server. Access to home
directories and shared folders is controlled by pemnsslolls :set by the system administrator.
The diagram below reflects the Committee's server and desktop configurations.

(84,711 posts)with something, but he wasn't. Here on DU (you were here then, I believe) many of us wondered with all the acrimony even then between Dems & Repubs why they would be sharing computers.
This report makes it sound sort of just "normal sharing" ....but, in light of all that was probably going on with the NSA spying in 2002 can we believe that this "file sharing" couldn't have been misused? And, that everyone was so trusting that they didn't think of it. But, 2003 most of us didn't think so much about security of computers and who could be hacking in even if it wasn't the NSA...think of who else might have cared about which committee might have been preparing investigations and who might be interested in that info by either the opposing party or outside interests.
Thanks for finding that!

(4,876 posts)and she wouldn't answer his questions either.
Bernie asks all the right questions, and you know they are the right questions because no one ever answers him.
He said to Bachmann, "You want to cut Social Security". She interrupted him with "That is a lie" He then asked her at least 5 times "Do you support the chained CPI cuts?" And 5 times she called him a liar, and refused to answer the question. She interrupted him half a dozen times before he got pissed. The faces he made for the camera when she spoke were pretty hilarious though
