.....when we have many thousands of over 50 YO's who can not get reemployed after years of dedicated service in the workforce.
Those over 50 are the treasure in America and it seems like employers are throwing them away like yesterdays trash.
And no one in the country wants to talk about it.... what about a program for us Mr. President.

I am older, and I know the bias against us older workers. But the young people need to have jobs as well. We need both. Either that, or lower the SS age so that we will get out of the way.

(10,942 posts)needed to create jobs better than republicans from largely rural, backward districts and states do. But anyone that says the solution is as simple as encouraging manufacturing to stay in the USA are fooling themselves. Our policy could encourage manufacturers to stay in the USA and punish those that attempt to manufacture abroad and sell in the USA, but even that will only go so far. Governments in massive nations like India and China need to enact policies to promote internal consumption and elevating their poor instead of pushing for exporting products to other countries. If India and China spend money wisely raising the living standards of the majority of their citizens and focus on using more products internally instead of exporting, those actions alone would cause large economic growth in the rest of the world. One last point, Americans will need to have fewer, or no kids. No child or one child families should be the rule instead of the exception. There are only so many jobs in this country and the world, more children means more people competing for jobs.

(1,168 posts)my company is hiring several (2 or 3) assembly solderers. Thing is they need to be either certified solder J-STD 001 E or NHB 5300 xxx or capable of obtaining J STD operator status in a reasonable amount of time. Plus a security/D&A background check and a general working knowledge of AS-9100 quality procedures.

(11,481 posts)I think that young Americans do need jobs. And so do 50+ Americans. The problem comes from trying to create those jobs under the anarchy of the market in capitalism.
A planned economy which takes into account not only jobs, but needs, along with a sliding scale of "job sharing" at full pay for all could do it. But you ain't gonna get it under the current economic system.
Oh, but what about "profit" you say? FUCK profit. People's needs are ALWAYS more important than profit.
