I remember how ashamed we all were and the malaise we all felt when Bush was president.

(23,951 posts)... I have it memorized - "I love it when I wake up in the morning and Barack Obama is president."
I have my own corollary - I love it when I wake up in the morning and Mitt Romney isn't.

(90,565 posts)I just read one here where the kindest thing I can think of to say is that the OP and pals simply utterly missed the point of having the maimed soldier there. What I took away was: "This, you bastards who love war, is the consequence." What some of my fellow DUers took away, apparently, was shame blame bile and vile heaped on the POTUS' head. I don't get it.
Thank God this man is president.

Not that i don't love throwing around the Eff word and all that...but if i were making an SOTU address, I'd be damn sure to control my language!!
I had to jump into that thread too.

(1,348 posts)They saw it clearly and chose to be annoyed by it instead. That's what people who are constantly looking for something to complain about do.
Also see: willful ignorance
They might as well have called the soldier a poor slack jawed bumpkin. Clearly Sgt. Remsburg is so dim he couldn't possibly have decided on his own to be there tonight.

K & R, I'm really glad Pres O is the leader of the free world.

However, I will agree with the sentiment overall.

(15,185 posts)His presidency is far from perfect but for the most part, he has the right idea and priorities.
As my mom said when he mentioned pre-existing conditions (and I paraphrase), "the GOP doesn't have to agree with the bill's contents, but they showed their true colors by sitting on their hands during that remark. You'd think they could at least applaud for the principle."
But they really are a bunch of evil fucks.

(47,285 posts)predisposed for the job. I don't always agree with him, but I am in awe of the way he handles the job and his opponents. History will treat this president very well and not just because he was the first African American president. Few, if any president has had to function under such adversarial conditions. It is like a spouse in an abusive marriage where nothing you do or say is right.
This is a good, decent man who came to the office with no scandal or dirt, but the cleaner a politician is, the more the opposition will try to discredit him/her. In the end, they won't even be a footnote in history and on some level they know it.

(13,685 posts)He is clean where they are the dregs. So of course, as dregs, they want to tear him down. They can't do it with blackmail or cheap threats. So they try to fight him by derailing the country.
PatSeg
(47,285 posts)and the President is the cool kid they can't compete with, so they do everything they can to tear him down. Their envy overrides all commonsense or reason and yes, they'll derail the country to bring him down. It is a form of derangement or even insanity, that someone would destroy the world they live in, to bring down a person they can never live up to.
It is a sad reminder that most people are small and petty, and would crucify the historical figures they quote and revere if they were alive today, most especially Jesus.

(3,922 posts)I don't like the way soldiers, wounded or otherwise, get paraded around and treated like politician's play things.
But I'm glad Obama is president. I feel safer knowing he's in charge, exponentially safer than I did under Dubya. If it wasn't for Obamacare, I wouldn't have medical insurance right now.
