this is hardly a secret but it sure gets short shrift here.
Last night, President Obama touted natural gas in the his SOTU- and guess what that's alll about? Yep, fracking.
Under the radar, the President has been easing the way for energy companies to expand fracking.

Obama re-committed to his climate change plan of using the EPA to cut greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and gave a forceful defence of climate science. But he undercut those moves by pushing the expansion of natural gas which is also a fossil fuel. Recent studies have shown much higher emissions of methane, which is 80 times more powerful than CO2 over 20 years, undercutting its climate benefits. There are also real concerns that pushing natural gas will make it harder for renewables like solar and wind to find a bigger market share.

"you do. and who gives a fuck about that distraction you're throwing up?"
...the most important thing is that the anti-Obama opposes the TPP. Please, the TPP, give a "fuck." America is doomed.

(3,596 posts)but I agree with him on more things than with which I disagree.
My biggest disappointments have been not pushing harder to close GITMO, apparent indiscriminate use of drones, support of fracking and apparent support for the XL pipeline, support for a chained CPI and his love of the TPP.
On these issues he is dead wrong and history will prove him wrong.
But as between having BO in the White House or Gramps or RMoney, I will take BO any day.

It is truly amazing, isn't it, how on a point like this one, or, in one of your threads, on your point about the President's support for fast-tracking the TPP, how Obama's fiercest defenders will argue that these are not his positions -- as if the text of the SOTU stands in pristine isolation of the political context in which it is delivered!
