What you are SUPPOSED to be doing when you have an ice storm-

(102,188 posts)yet, I lived a while in Atlanta and can tell you that the most experienced among us still have to deal with untreated ice and Semi tractor-trailer trucks- without chains--and countless drivers on extremely clogged interstates and highways. And, yes, there are hills--especially the I-75 corridor north from the Chattahoochee river north into Cobb, Cherokee and other northern counties...
So the Texans offering advice driving on ice on FLATS are really not much help. But you are irritatingly ignorant to the situation. I feel for the Atlantans...
BTW, I saw someone overturn a truck like that "playing" on an open ice area like that. So, I'd be a little less self-confident.

(30,151 posts)Drove a 1979 Honda CB750 SuperSport a whole winter to keep my first job in telecom. One snow ride in I think I only dropped it three times.
From DeSoto Mo to Chesterfield MO, (over 40 miles). At least it had a full fairing
We lived in a valley in the boonies there was one double hill you either made or didn't. (charter church road & laguna palma rd)
My dad rolled a Duster into a ravine one time trying to go up it. Of course he had his goal of never missing a day of work at Chrysler....

I DO applaud our county and state officials who have declared this an emergency and ordered people to stay off the roads. Most everything was closed as early as yesterday morning out here in the boonies ( good..smart move)
as ice pellets poured down most of the day. Today everything is shut down again, no traffic.
What looks like a thin layer of snow on my deck has solid ice under it, I slipped while hanging a bird feeder, and I had been walking slowly and carefully. Cannot imagine driving on this stuff...the temp outside is 22.

The most dangerous thing we faced was a soda can buried under the snow / ice. More than once we'd get an instant flat and go rolling like dice on a craps table.
