Hey there Chris Smith, Republican congressman from New Jersey, what are you doing these days? Working on a farm bill thatll help get food stamp benefits secured for the working poor in this country who depend on that help to feed their children?
Nah, Im just sittin here wasting taxpayer time, legislatin some vaginas. You know, Republicanizin things, like a boss.
The above conversation didnt actually happen, as far as I know it. However, Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) did in fact sponsor the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which was just the latest attempt by a congressional body under the stewardship of Speaker John Boehner to write laws dealing with or pertaining to female genitalia. Just when you thought it was safe to enter the 21st century, there are still Republicans like Mr. Smith who think its far more important to cut off access to abortion than it is to bridge at least some of the income inequality gap that threatens to suck Middle Class America up into the abyss of time. Isnt it fascinating that even though they ran on WHERE ARE THE JOBS?! in 2010, once they got the jobs they were asking for, they didnt actually write any laws aimed at creating jobs. Jobs (I just had to see if I could squeeze in the word jobs one more time in that paragraph).
Instead, once Boehner took the gavel from Nancy Pelosi the Republican messaging machine went offline, Tea Partiers starting worrying more about how many sound bites they could be quoted in calling how many different Democrats anti-American socialists than they did about fixing the economy. They became more obsesses with repealing not fixing the Affordable Care Act, preferring to boot millions of Americans who had just gotten access to health care thank to preexisting conditions being a thing of the past back out of the system and into the emergency rooms than to work with Democrats. Theyve voted to repeal the ACA more than 40 times, knowing well how much each vote cost the taxpayers and the fact that none of their repeal votes would get past the Democrats in the Senate, much less to be signed by the Obama in Obamacare.
