my local news channel did a real hatchet job on the ACA. The went to one local business who happened to be raising rates on all it's employees because of the ACA. They went over every employee and said they "tried" to look on their own but couldn't do any better. They did not address the subsidies nor did they address the fact that Medicaid hasn't been expanded in PA. They ended their story by asking for our ACA stories so if you have any let WTAE know.

dem in texas
(2,673 posts)She had a private Blue Cross plan. She had to drop it in Oct. 1913, she could no longer afford the $325 a month premium. It was $5000 deductible, high co-pay for medicine and did not cover her eyes because she had a retina problem a few years back. She got sick in November with a kidney infection that would not clear up although doctor tried several different antibiotics. She could not afford any tests or to pay to see a urologist.
She signed up for AC under a new Blue Cross plan that started Jan 1. It is $500 deductible and will cover her eyes. She is going to see a urologist next week about her kidney problem. She gets a AC credit and her plan runs her $60 a month. This is Texas which also opted out of the Medicaid part of AC.
She went through a lot of hassle getting enrolled (on hold for 5 hours, enrolled, but could not get her policy number at first), but she got it all cleared up and has paid her first month's premium and used it once when she went to see her doctor.

(9,457 posts)There are ACA partners who guide people, remember the "navigators" you saw on TV? Here is a list I found through Google for agencies in your area.
Those partners providing outreach, information and enrollment include:
the Consumer Health Coalition, 412-456-1877 ext. 200;
Enroll America, 718-483-4986;
the Pennsylvania Health Access Network, 412-512-9225;
Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania, 412-258-9539; and
The Squirrel Hill Health Center, 412-904-5285.
Outreach and information coordination services are also being provided by
the Carnegie Presbyterian Church, 412-225-7550, and
the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, 412-594-2559
Right now, McGee said, their focus is on outreach because a lot of people who need help getting through the enrollment process dont know that the AIU and its partners are here to do just that, or how to reach them.
The AIU is conducting education and outreach sessions throughout the county, most recently at its headquarters in the Waterfront in Homestead. For those who do not have a computer, McGee said she or one of her fellow navigators will take them to a convenient library or community center and walk them through the process.
McGee can be reached directly at 412-576-3297
There are a couple of stories listed in the article, but I'm sure if you contact these agencies and ask them to contact
WTAE for a rebuttal they will gladly do so. I'll bet Enroll America and Consumer Health Coalition would gladly get in the face of that asshole reporter and educate him.
