It has been a week since Paul Ryan has rejected the notion he wanted to run for speaker, a notion that was propagated by the media without even an ounce of proof he had ever wanted it. So, Paul Ryan would not be Boehner's successor, despite all the efforts by some reporters to brand him the savior of the Republican Party.
Well, the new phase of rebranding and elevating Mr Ryan continue. I guess his blue eyes have a special attraction for reporters. So, here it is: Paul Ryan reboots.
To Politico's credit, there is a minimum of critical thinking, telling us that Ryan is in an interregnum,
The Wisconsin Republican is, in part, betting that incrementalism legislative half-steps toward conservative solutions is the best look for Republicans in a divided Washington. The recent budget agreement is a perfect example. The Ryan who wanted to remake America is now trying on modesty.
Still, a full size article that is essentially telling us how Paul Ryan is essential and never evoking the obvious: send Paul Ryan back to his family, given that it seems to be what motivates him to run for vice-president, but not for speaker.
Still, the media have absolutely no problem carrying the waters for a WI congressman that has done nothing except liking the limelights. Got to love this line and I am sure Boehner and co will appreciate it.
Ryans high profile, however, is not limiting his work in Washington in fact, just the opposite. Hes using his increased prominence and reservoir of respect among lawmakers to become one of the Capitols most important players. Hes a stand-in for a House leadership team that often needs outside validation. Its a role that can either enhance or hamper Ryans reputation. Working across the aisle to make incremental progress, Ryan argues, is what the country and his party needs.
