I find myself on DU more than FB...

I was laid off a job I loved and had for 10 years a while ago (I won't go into numbers).

But let me say, that when I do get hired into a steady job, the very first thing I will do is to turn on my Mac, go to www.democraticunderground.com, and setup a Star membership account. I've already got my custom icon.

DU is the best!

The first thing you should do is sit down and figure out how to move up.

You can get a star on DU for less than you put into most soda machines.

Sell your mac, buy a windows laptop, and pay 2 months rent with the change as well.

Or, Buy a laptop without an operating system which could save you up to $300 more bucks, then slap on Linux for free. You could support DU in style!

People will say anything to get you to use "Windows"

Keep your Macintosh and start posting on the Cooking and Baking topic section of DU, where you can continue doing beautiful things together.

There are a few old friends who I enjoy talking to sometimes, but other than that, I really have no use for the site. If it wasn't for those old friends, I would have disabled my account long ago. It's nothing but a spam generator.

6. FB or DU?

I was all DU from 2002 to about a year ago. Then I started to look deeper into that new online phenom Facebook. Once I mastered some arcane stuff - like using the shift key instead of enter to make a new paragraph - it started to be fun. I have a lot of involvement with my non political special interests and there's a lot more interaction when I post political stuff, with people of opposing views.

I still love DU, but it's like preaching to the choir. On FB I can interact and debate conservatives and tea partiers and get a better understanding of how they think.

One thing I've learned is that my progressive liberal bubble and their conservative bubble many many times have mutually exclusive information. For example, "They" contend that Obama won in 2012 with election fraud - getting a lot of dead people to vote for him. I never picked up on such info on DU. And it makes a good basis for "their" fervor over voting fraud.

I try to be an activist - I spoke at my Congressman recent Q&A this week, and I feel my FB posts do a lot more to reach the other side than DU. Even though it's pissing up a rope, I enjoy discussing in an open public forum things like SOTU's Special Forces Cory Remsburg should never have been so grievously wounded in the first place* as the Iraq Invasion was an act of Treason of the entire GWB 2003 White House and they should all be tired as traitors and murderers. The Congressman's response was that they did the best they could on the faulty info at the time. Thanks to DU we all know what really happened - like Rumsfeld giving orders to look for Iraq connections to 9-11 the same day the tragedy occurred. "Today was our new Pearl Harbor" - as one of those creeps wrote in their diary.

*His ten tours were in Afghanistan, rendering my point about Iraq moot. But I ranted anyway, on behalf of the 4,500 dead servicemen, 900 dead contractors, and the 100,000 dead Iraqis and one million displaced Iraqis, who, as Americans, we don't give a fucking rats ass about.

It is what you make it. I've been gently influencing and educating friends for six years through facebook.

And thanks for the info. about the "shift key".
