It feels like interest in this Super Bowl is a lot higher than usual.
I am watching and hope to see a great game.
I really have no favorite. Both teams have a compelling back story IMO.

Additionally... nothing wrong with loving sports. It's a part of our popular culture and I think even if a person does not care for it, they should at least be informed about it. It's like the fact that I could never get though Moby Dick, but I know the characters, themes, and how it relates to other ideas. Maybe that doesn't make sense to some, but that's how I think about my love of sports ( or maybe justify it! LOL )

These nonprofits also get the taxpayers to build them stadiums...

The 32 teams pay taxes. The owners, coaches, players, refs, and the team pay taxes. The only thing exempt is the NFL Business Office. You know, the one that drafts up contracts, union disputes for the players, keeps the league running. That Office.

Who is Renee Fleming? Meet Super Bowl 2014's National Anthem Singer!

The day is finally here and the 2014 Super Bowl will be played this evening (February 2). When the game starts and the National Anthem is sung, a question on many minds will probably be “Who is Renee Fleming?” Let us fill you in!

The 54-year-old opera singer is one of the most renowned performers in her industry. She can be heard on over 60 different recordings and she has 10 solo albums of her own.

Last year, President Obama awarded Renee with the National Medal of Arts, America’s highest honor for an individual artist. She is also the recipient of four Grammy Awards, most recently winning the prize for Best Classical Vocal Solo in 2013.

“It’s an enormous risk, again because of the spotlight,” Renee said about performing at the Super Bowl during her press conference last week. “I really wanted to present it in a really serious way.”

The football playing is okay ... but the broadcast is pitiful.

The Super Bowl is so over-hyped and so oversold with commercials that it verges on tedious.

Of course, Joe Buck and Fox and all its video bling doesn't help.

I may just have to watch the Wizard of Oz or something.

Ha! One minute of football and about five minutes of adds while I'm typing this.
(Yes, I am typing slowly.)

Because I'm really disturbed about the discoveries that so many football players have traumatic brain injuries. I'd like to see the halftime show, but may wait till it's on You Tube. Plus the unconscionable tax exemt status of the NFL.

I have a PBS documentary about abolitionists on, then will watch or tape Sherlock.

Denver is regarded as the "Home" team for this game.

How the hell is that determined when the game is held at a 3rd party venue, so to speak?

I suppose the closest was 1985 when the game was played at Stanford Stadium and the local team was the 49'ers.

Still, it wasn't their home field.

The home team for the Super Bowl is determined by what number the Super Bowl is. If it's odd, the NFC team is home. The AFC is home if it's even.

Or like when the 49ers made two touchdowns (if I'm remembering right) in the last two minutes in 1980 or whenever it was. Joe Montana.

Something like that would be cool.

I am pleasantly surprised. I was a little concerned when I heard that they recruited Bruno Mars, as he rates a "meh" in my book. But, he did a good job. Better than many of the previous acts they've had over the years.

I'm not saying he's terrible or anything, he may very well be the greatest regular season player of all time, but he does falter at red light time. He's 11-12 in the playoffs. His postseason numbers aren't close to his regular season numbers. He's just gets a little chokey.
