Senate to hold cloture vote on food stamp-slashing farm bill
by Laura Clawson
The Senate is scheduled to vote to end debate on the farm bill conference report late Monday afternoon, with a final vote expected Tuesday if it gets the votes needed Monday. The House passed the bill last week.
While this farm bill includes only about 20 percent of the cuts to food stamps House Republicans had been pushing, it does include cuts of more than $8 billion over the next 10 years. That means benefit cuts for nearly 2 million people at a time when emergency food providers are still recovering from a November benefits cut that left many running low on food. All to save 0.04 percent of the federal budget.
Sign and send our petition to your Democratic senator, telling them in no uncertain terms: No Farm Bill that cuts food stamps. Absolutely no cuts to food stamps at all.
