America, the Fact-Challenged

http://bluntandcranky.wordpress.com/2014/02/03/america-the-fact-challenged/

" Last week, the Right Wingnuts went lizard-poo crazy about Obama’s decision to use executive orders. Never mind the fact that he has used very few executive orders compared with other modern Prexies. From Forbes to Fox to f***wits in Congress, the lying Teapublicans are doing their best to misinform the American public. And their best is pretty damned good.

In reality, President Obama is doing nothing that his predecessors did not, and has done it less than many of them. But because so many of our “news” sources are populated by liars and hacks, all too many Americans believe the lies. The facts are buried by the lies.

And when we’re not being fed a load of BS, we’re getting the other part of the mushroom treatment: we are being kept in the dark. Repub lawmakers from DC to Ohio are busily rewriting laws to shield their theft and cronyism from the eyes of the taxpayers who are being robbed.

And the hell of it is, it’s not even illegal for these people to lie to us. When this writer was but a wee lad, editorials were clearly labeled as such, so we knew when somebody was talking out of the wrong orifice. Nowadays, entire “news” (actually Infotainment) outlets like Fox, Breitbart and the like are nothing but editorials/opinions and thus either devoid of facts or contrary to facts. Small wonder our nation is so frequently fact-challenged, and in some cases proud of that ignorance, and determined to be ill-informed.

“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” — Thomas Jefferson

Listen to Mr. Jefferson, please.

It would be nice if it were illegal for our media and politicians to lie to us, but it isn’t. So we have to exert ourselves a bit to find out the truth, based on facts."
