(Sounds a little out of place on something called the "Obama Diary". But....... live and learn, I guess.)

(12,503 posts)Imagine having an Italian last name and eating pizza with a knife and fork, a la Trump. How embarrassing was that?

(12,287 posts)will be no more stop and searches, just that they'll comply with the courts decission. That wasn't to stop them, but to do them legally. So we'll see how that will work out.

De Blasio will no longer fight the suit brought by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), and empower a court-appointed monitor to oversee the department's reform of stop-and-frisk over three years.
De Blasio called it a 'defining moment in our history,' saying it would 'lay the foundation for not only keeping us the safest big city in America, but making us safer still.'

'Today is the beginning of a long-overdue process: the reform of the NYPD to end illegal and racially discriminatory policing,' said Vincent Warren, CCR's executive director. 'For too long, communities of color have felt under siege by the police, and young Black and Latino men have disproportionately been the target.'
Bloomberg and his longtime police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, had steadfastly defended stop-and-frisk as an essential tool that had helped lower crime rates citywide. But De Blasio made his opposition to stop-and-frisk a central part of his campaign for City Hall and vowed to change the strategy when he installed his own commissioner, Bill Bratton.

(12,287 posts)There is no where in the court fight that said to stop the stop and frisk...the court said to make it legal by not racially profiling...it did not say to stop, stop and frisk completely. So I still wonder how he is going to handle this. He never says he is stopping it completely. He just says he will comply with the court and the court did not say it had to be stopped, just that it had to comply with the law. It's just weasel words.

(7,683 posts)FYI in Italy, you eat pizza with a knife and a fork -- you NEVER pick it up, that would be considered almost savage. It's an American thing to pick up pizza and eat it that way.

(57,936 posts)A true Italian pizza have a thin crust made with flour, yeast (natural) (*) and water. Nothing else.
An American pizza have a thick crust, you can possibly also find oil or other fat inside.
The topping on an Italian pizza is very light compared to an American one: the most popular in Italy is "pizza margherita", which just have meshed tomatoes, mozzarella and basil; a spoon of extra virgin olive oil after cooking. Between 300 and 350 calories, typically. Obviously other recipes include different or more toppings (mushrooms, olives, etc) but no way close to a the most typical "pepperoni pizza" eaten in the US, up to 1000 calories, greasy and fat, impossible to find in Italy (the closer is called "pizza alla diavola", because of the spicy salami).
Note that "peperoni" in Italian actually means "bell pepper", it's not a kind of salami.

As I recall, years ago when we went to Italy and ordered pizza, there was no way we could pick it up and eat it with our fingers. But American pizza is good when eaten with your fingers.

(449 posts)And de Blasio isn't the mayor or Italy, is he?
In all seriousness, I love the guy. I wish we had many more Democrats like him.

(12,882 posts)I give a rodent's rump HOW or even IF this mayor eats pizza. It's how he feels about the welfare of those who cook the stuff.
