There are the Koch bros and the Waltons and then there are the people in Tipton, IA, who

just did the greatest thing. I just heard this on my local newscast and there is no link for this story yet. I did not catch the couple's name but they had worked for several years as volunteers in the middle school there. During that time they quietly saved their own money and collected donations from others. Last night there was an announcement at the school meeting that they have established a $700,000 scholarship fund and that every child in the middle school will be eligible for funds for higher education when they graduate from high school. This is such a wonderful story from a small town. People paying it forward. They did not want publicity for themselves and did not appear on the news story. I'm sure that there will be children in that school who will step foward and shine brightly using this couple's gift to the community.

will tell her in a couple of minutes.
We have been working with a group in West Liberty to raise scholarship and do mentoring for about 8 years. We have made nowhere near that money.

Great story -

small towns. Our rural kids have such a tough time sometimes. We need them to come back later and help build rural Iowa. Hoping that we'll get some medical doctors to return and serve the communities they come from.
