About PBS and the Kochs...

My Mom was watching TV late night/early a.m. and said that on her local PBS station was a huge screen which essentially said the Koch Bros (I think she said David Koch) was a major contributor to the station (or program or network - I've no idea how that crap works). Mom is 86, and almost blind, so the advertisement/acknowledgement had to be pretty large for her to see it. She said it appeared several times and she looked several times to ensure she was seeing it right. She lives in California, in case that makes any difference, so the local PBS station she was watching was probably based there.

Anyway, in case there is any doubt that the Kochtopus has sucked up PBS or some good portion of it, let there be no more. They evidently have.

2. There was a big kerfuffle not too long ago about them using their weighty donation

to try and pull some programming. I can't recall if they were successful.

4. The program was called "Citizen Koch"

And they threatened to pull funding to PBS if they aired it. PBS didn't air it, last I heard. But my info could be out of date.

3. In NYC, one sees the graffitti of Koch in venues of the arts

On the marbled wall of the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a benefactor.

Above the entrance of the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center. It houses the New York City Ballet. New York City Opera moved out a few years ago.

Even though the City of New York owns the theater, it is named after Koch. In July 2008, philanthropist David H. Koch pledged to provide $100 million over the next 10 years for the purpose of renovating the theater and providing for an operating and maintenance endowment. It was renamed the David H. Koch Theater at the New York City Ballet Winter gala, Tuesday, November 25, of that year.
