Description

Title: Program Coordinator

Department: Conservation – Democracy Initiative

Reports to: Director, Democracy Initiative

Context: Provides program, issue and administrative support functions for public education and advocacy programs as implemented by coalition of organizations.

Scope: Works with professional staff to assist in coordinating development and implementation of program, could include researching, drafting, editing and producing program and advancement materials. Helps implement public education and advocacy campaigns. Handles record keeping, filing and database management.

Job Activities:

Provides administrative support for the Democracy Initiative as directed by supervisor.
Maintains and updates appropriate information and coalition lists as required. This could include database, list serves, google drive.
Schedules and supports events including webinars, trainings, and coalition meetings. This could include confirming participation, note taking, coordinating logistics, liaising with venues and other duties related to events. Responsibilities could include travel.
Assists in researching and producing information to support public education and advocacy campaigns relating to voting rights, money in politics, and Senate rules reform campaigns. Could include producing email action alerts, fact sheets, talking points, grassroots materials, coalition updates, and agendas.
Interacts with staff, representatives of coalition organizations, grasstops and grassroots activists, media, and donors.
Tracks developments in voting rights, money in politics and Senate rules issues as well as coalition partner activities.
Drafts emails, notes, minutes, reports for distribution to staff, coalition partners.
Supports development of proposals and submissions to foundations and individual donors.
Miscellaneous duties as required.

Skills and Knowledge

-- 1-2 years of prior office experience desired, strong detail-orientation and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced office. Able to effectively handle multiple requests and projects.

-- Ability to interact well with staff, volunteers, VIPs

-- Excellent writing and editing skills

-- Proficient in computers, Excel, google environment and word processing.

-- Commitment to organizing and advocacy

-- Cross cultural awareness

-- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends



This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and John Muir Local.
